Demonstrating Clinical Performance of the Elecsys Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Anti-Nucleocapsid Immunoassay Using Real-World Data to Support Regulatory Decision-Making in the USA.

INTRODUCTION: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) remains a global public health concern. Anti-nucleocapsid (anti-N) serology is a key tool for identifying prior infection and supporting population-level surveillance. This study evaluated the clinical performance of the Elecsys® Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Anti-N immunoassay on the Cobas® e 601/602 immunoassay analyzer using real-world data from patients with polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-confirmed symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection. The study aimed to provide data which, along with clinical study data, supported the transition fr

Preoperative pulmonary hemodynamics and clinical decision making to determine operability and risk of long-term pulmonary hypertension in infants with open shunt under 1 year.

INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary arterial hypertension associated with congenital heart disease (PAH-CHD) can potentially be reversed by early shunt closure, but its efficacy decreases over time. This study provides valuable descriptive data on: which factors were associated with clinical decision-making of operability and the outcomes of those decisions in infants under 1 year with PAH-CHD and an open shunt. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed 100 infants with PAH-CHD who underwent right heart catheterization for operability assessment. Acute vasodilator testing (AVT) was performed in 64 patients. …

Secondary spontaneous pneumothorax due to extensive pulmonary tuberculosis in a patient with acute hepatitis B flare: clinical challenges and therapeutic decision making-a case report.

Secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (SSP), particularly when complicated by a persistent air leak, is an uncommon but serious manifestation of active pulmonary tuberculosis. Such cases often require pleural drainage or surgical intervention. Management becomes significantly more challenging when patients present with extensive pulmonary disease, compromised general condition, and severe comorbidities. We describe a 28-year-old male with bilateral extensive pulmonary tuberculosis, persistent right-sided pneumothorax, and a severe acute flare of chronic hepatitis B. Conventional management, inclu

Disease Monitoring in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Daily Clinical Practice and Impact on Treatment Decision Making: Real World Evidence From the Inflammatory Bowel Disease-PODCAST Study.

BACKGROUND: Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are progressive inflammatory bowel diseases that often result in bowel damage, imposing a significant burden on patients with insufficient disease control due to the limited efficacy of current treatments or complex disease management. There are limited data on how disease monitoring informs treatment decisions in daily clinical practice. The IBD-PODCAST study aimed to estimate the proportion of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis patients experiencing suboptimal disease control in a real-world setting. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate di

Literature Review-Transthoracic Echocardiography, Computed Tomography Angiography, and Their Value in Clinical Decision Making and Outcome Predictions in Patients with COVID-19 Associated Cardiovascular Complications.

The sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic posed a great threat to the world's healthcare systems. It resulted in the development of new methods and algorithms for the diagnosis and treatment of both COVID-19 and its complications. Diagnostic imaging played a crucial role in both cases. Among the most widely used examinations are transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and computed tomography angiography (CTA). Cardiovascular complications in COVID-19 are frequently associated with a severe inflammatory response, which results in acute respiratory failure, further leading to severe complication

Unresectable or medically inoperable non-small cell lung cancer: the use of established clinical prognostic factors in making radiation-related treatment decisions.

Many physicians consider the prognosis exceptionally poor for patients with localized non-small cell lung cancer who are not eligible for surgery, either because of the extent of their disease or because a coexisting medical condition precludes surgery. Thus, these patients frequently are not offered aggressive curative therapy. However, the disease of many of these patients is potentially curable and should be considered for curative treatment. Although pathologic data from surgical specimens are useful in predicting prognosis, many prognostic factors have also been identified for medically i
