A 40-year-old woman with left periorbital swelling for 1 month presented without diplopia or change in vision. A proportion of these patients have progressive disease requiring corneal transplantation. OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Dysphonia associated with laryngeal paralysis may be identified in the short term postoperatively or may develop years after successful medialization laryngoplasty. In selected cases, laryngeal collagen injection permits further medialization of one or both vocal folds by small increments to improve phonation after medialization thyroplasty. Minimally invasive soft tissue augmentation of the face with injectable substances has been performed for more than a century. During this period, many substances have been used to cosmetically improve soft-tissue defects and deficiencies. Some have lasted; most have not. These procedures have become increasingly important as more patients seek aesthetic improvement without major surgical procedures. This article reviews the current status of these materials and techniques.
