Acanthus Condom Catheter: A Reusable and Adjustable Silicone Male External Catheter With Pressure-Sensitive Silicone Adhesive for Urinary Drainage.

Condom catheters are also called external urinary collection devices to collect urine and monitor urine output in hospitalized and other patients with urinary incontinence. They play an important role in reducing catheter-associated urinary tract infections by using invasive indwelling catheters that are placed inside the bladder. Currently, male external catheters come with or without adhesives. Major problems with current condom catheters are finding the right size to fit, excessive slippage needing to replace too many, urine leak, skin irritation, and damage. In some cases, it's a common pr

Penile Mondor's Disease Resulting From Forceful Condom Removal During Sexual Intercourse: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Penile Mondor's disease, or dorsal vein thrombophlebitis, is vital for urologists to recognize. It causes pain and hardening in the penis due to triggers like trauma or neoplasms. Distinguishing it from similar conditions such as sclerosing lymphangitis and Peyronie's disease is crucial. Penile Doppler ultrasound is the preferred diagnostic method. Providing reassurance can ease patient anxiety. This case report highlights a unique occurrence following forceful condom removal during sex, detailing symptoms, diagnosis, and successful treatment.

Validation of Brief Condom Use Attitudes Scales for Spanish-Speaking People Who Use Crack Cocaine in El Salvador.

People who use crack cocaine (PWUCC) are a population severely impacted by a concentrated epidemic of HIV. Behavioral interventions to prevent and treat HIV among PWUCC have been implemented around the world including in low- and middle-income countries which have been disproportionately affected by HIV. However, few studies have validated and assessed psychometric properties of measures on PWUCC, especially in transnational populations. Our sample was comprised of 1324 PWUCC, Spanish mono-lingual speakers, residing in the metropolitan area of San Salvador, El Salvador. Exploratory factor anal

Condom use: a less travelled route among minibus taxi drivers and their taxi queens in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

BACKGROUND: Despite significant gains in the HIV epidemic in South Africa, with reduction in mortality and elimination of vertical transmission, national HIV prevalence remains high, with women rather than men continuing to bear higher burden of the disease. Population subgroups, through ignorance, disbelief or recklessness, continue to engage in risky sexual behaviour. A substantial proportion of minibus taxi drivers engage in risky sex, seldom seeing themselves at risk for STIs or HIV/AIDS. These taxi drivers have been linked with so-called taxi queens, with whom they engage in transactional

Correlates of inconsistent condom use and drug use among men having sex with men in Poland: a cross-sectional study.

The number of new human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) diagnoses is rising in many parts of Europe. We sought to evaluate the rising prevalence of new HIV diagnoses in Poland, where the majority of newly-diagnosed HIV cases are men having sex with men (MSM). This study aims to measure the prevalence of condom use and drug use and to identify risk factors for contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among MSM in Poland by distributing an anonymous online survey aimed toward MSM. Among the 1438 participants who completed valid surveys, those with low education level and greater than 100

A Prospective Examination of Men's Condom Use Resistance: Event-Level Associations with Sexual Aggression, Alcohol Consumption, and Trait Anger.

Burgeoning research suggests that men engage in a variety of coercive and non-coercive tactics to avoid condom use (condom use resistance; CUR), suggesting a risk nexus regarding sexual risk and sexual aggression (SA). Laboratory-based research has found that acute alcohol intoxication is associated with CUR; however, no study has examined event-level associations among alcohol consumption, SA history, and CUR or the moderating effects of trait anger. Non-problem drinking young adult men who have sex with women (N = 430) completed a background survey and follow-up assessments regarding their s

Being on the Safe Side: A Qualitative Study of Condom Use Motivations According to Contraceptive Type among Adolescents in Atlanta, Georgia.

STUDY OBJECTIVE: Quantitative data suggest that adolescent users of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), compared with short-acting methods (pill, patch, ring, depot medroxyprogesterone acetate [DMPA]), might be less likely to use condoms. We qualitatively describe and explain adolescent contraceptive users' motivations for condom use, including variation according to contraceptive type. DESIGN: Individual, in-depth qualitative interviews, analyzed thematically. SETTING: Participants were recruited from public family planning clinics and an adolescent medicine clinic, as well as univ…

Partner Notification, Treatment, and Subsequent Condom Use After Pelvic Inflammatory Disease: Implications for Dyadic Intervention With Urban Youth.

Research suggests that youth in urban communities often remain in the same sexual relationships after a pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) diagnosis. Utilizing data from the Technology Enhanced Community Health Nursing (TECH-N) study, we explored partner notification, treatment, and condom use after PID diagnosis. Outreach interviews assessed adherence to self-care behaviors, followed by interviews 3 months after diagnosis. Descriptive statistics and multivariable logistic regressions evaluated baseline condom use versus 3 months after diagnosis as it relates to group and relationship status. N

From Pill to Condom, or Nothing at all: HIV Diagnosis and Discontinuation of Highly Effective Contraceptives Among Women in Northeast Brazil.

This is a cross-sectional study examining highly effective contraceptive (HEC) use among HIV-positive women in Salvador, Brazil. We used multivariate logistic regression to look for predictors of alternative contraceptive choices among women who discontinued HEC after HIV diagnosis. Of 914 participants surveyed, 38.5% of participants used HEC before but not after diagnosis. Of these, 65.9% used condoms alone; 19.3% used no protection; and 14.8% reported abstinence. Use of condoms alone was associated with a history of other sexually transmitted infections (AOR 2.18, 95% CI 1.09-4.66, p = 0.029…

Condom-use self-efficacy as a mediator between syndemics and condomless sex in men who have sex with men (MSM).

OBJECTIVE: Among men who have sex with men (MSM), HIV sexual risk and poor self-care behavior is associated with syndemics, or co-occurring psychosocial problems. Though prior research has demonstrated an additive total effect of syndemics on HIV risk behavior and infection, mostly within cross-sectional designs, it is possible that these associations are not direct but rather that syndemics disrupt relevant individual-level mediating psychological variables. One of the more common individual-level psychological variables that predicts health behavior generally, and HIV risk behavior specifica

The Impact of Couple HIV Testing and Counseling on Consistent Condom Use Among Pregnant Women and Their Male Partners: An Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: In sub-Saharan Africa couple HIV testing and counseling (CHTC) has been associated with substantial increases in safe sex, especially when at least one partner is HIV infected. However, this relationship has not been characterized in an Option B+ context. SETTING: The study was conducted at the antenatal clinic at Bwaila District Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi in 2016 under an Option B+ program. METHODS: Ninety heterosexual couples with an HIV-infected pregnant woman (female-positive couples) and 47 couples with an HIV-uninfected pregnant woman (female-negative couples) were enroll

Sexual risk behaviors and predictors of inconsistent condom use among crack cocaine users in the French overseas territories in the Americas.

The French overseas territories in the Americas are the French territories most affected by HIV. Crack cocaine users are particularly impacted. The objective of this study was to describe sexual risk behaviors and inconsistent condom use among crack cocaine users. A total of 640 crack cocaine users were interviewed. The sampling method was non-probabilistic. An anonymous standardized questionnaire of 110 questions was used. Over a third of persons did not use condoms systematically with casual sex partners (36.2%) or commercial sex partners (32.3%), and 64% did not use condoms systematically w…

Evaluation of the Condom Barriers Scale for Young Black Men Who Have Sex With Men: Reliability and Validity of 3 Subscales.

BACKGROUND: Reliable and valid scale measures of barriers to condom use are not available for young black men who have sex with men (YBMSM). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the Condom Barriers Scales for application with YBMSM. METHODS: A clinic-based sample of 600 YBMSM completed a computer-assisted self-interview. The primary measure was a 14-item abbreviated version of the Condom Barriers Scale. Reliability and criterion validity were assessed. RESULTS: All 3 subscales were reliable: partner-related barriers (Cronbach α=0.73), sensation-related barriers (α=0.70), and motivation-
