Resilience And Healthy Lifestyle for Rheumatoid Arthritis (The RA-HEAL trial): a randomised, parallel group, placebo-controlled clinical trial protocol.

BACKGROUND: The importance of self-management strategies that optimise physical health and mental health in the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is recognised, but access to multidisciplinary teams to support this can be challenging. Furthermore, evidence for the impact of multidisciplinary interventions, especially in early RA, is lacking. METHODS: The Resilience and Healthy Lifestyle for Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA-HEAL) Trial is a pragmatic RCT that aims to compare the effects of a structured multidisciplinary lifestyle intervention with self-directed activities in best-practice usual

Tackle your Tics, a brief intensive group-based exposure treatment for young people with tics: results of a randomised controlled trial.

Tics can have a serious impact on the quality of life of children and their families. Behavioural therapy is an evidence-based first line treatment for tic disorders. This randomised controlled trial studied the efficacy of a brief, condensed group-based programme for children with tics (Dutch Trial Registry NL8052, 27 September 2019). Tackle your Tics is a four-day group treatment, including exposure and response prevention and supporting components, delivered by therapists and 'experts by experience'. We collected outcome measures at baseline (T1), directly post-treatment (T2), and at three-

Assessing the Feasibility and Acceptability of Virtual Reality for Remote Group-Mediated Physical Activity in Older Adults: Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Physical inactivity represents a major health concern for older adults. Most social, at-home physical activity (PA) interventions use videoconference, email, or telephone communication for program delivery. However, evidence suggests that these platforms may hinder the social connection experienced by users. Recent advancements in virtual reality (VR) suggest that it may be a rich platform for social, at-home interventions because it offers legitimate options for intervention delivery and PA. OBJECTIVE: This pilot study aims to determine the feasibility and acceptability of VR com

Controlling chemical interface damping by removing aromatic monothiol and dithiol groups from gold nanorods using sodium borohydride solution.

Chemical interface damping (CID) in gold nanorods (AuNRs) significantly influences their optical properties due to the direct transfer of hot electrons from the AuNRs to adsorbed molecules. Despite ongoing research on CID, reversible tuning of CID at the single particle level remains a challenging task. In this study, we investigated the adsorption and removal of thiol-functionalized aromatic molecules, specifically thiophenol (TP) and benzene-1,2-dithiol (BDT), using sodium borohydride (NaBH4) solution as a reagent, with confirmation through surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) measuremen

Early augmentation therapy with dextromethorphan in mild to moderate major depressive disorder: A group sequential, response adaptive randomized controlled trial.

AIM: Therapeutic latency, lack of response, and adverse drug reactions are major challenges in current treatment approaches for major depressive disorder (MDD). Following the success of ketamine, more clinical research on NMDA antagonists is needed for a safe and long-term therapy in MDD. Hence, this study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of adjunct dextromethorphan to SSRIs in MDD. METHODS: In this randomized, double-blind, add-on, placebo-controlled, group sequential design clinical trial, 60 patients with MDD were randomized to receive either adjunct dextromethorphan (30 m

Effectiveness of virtually delivered Body Project groups to prevent eating disorders in young women at risk: a protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Eating disorders (EDs) are a group of mental illnesses associated with significant psychological and physiological consequences. Overall, only about one-fifth of individuals with EDs receive treatment and treatment is effective for only about one-third for those who receive care. The development and implementation of effective prevention approaches for those at risk is therefore pivotal. The Body Project is the most effective ED prevention program for at-risk women according to several meta-analyses, but reach is limited since delivery, traditionally, has been in-person. Moreover,

Cytokines Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) Association With Myasthenia Gravis (MG) In Algerian Patients: A Case-Control Study On A Small Group.

ABSTRACT: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease of multifactorial etiology in which genetic factors and cytokines seem to play an important role. The aim of this study was to investigate potential associations of cytokines single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and MG in Algerian patients. We performed a case-control study that included 27 patients and 74 healthy subjects. Cytokines SNPs genotyping was performed by the polymerase chain reaction sequence-specific primers (PCR-SSP) method. Our results showed that the TNF-α -308G/A (P < 0.005) and TGF-β1 +869T/T (P < 0.05) genotypes wer

Assessing and minimizing risk of bias in randomized controlled trials of tobacco cessation interventions: Guidance from the Cochrane Tobacco Addiction Group.

The Cochrane Tobacco Addiction Group has created risk of bias tools, which are topic-agnostic. In 2012 the Cochrane Tobacco Addiction Group created guidance specific to considerations for reviews of randomized controlled trials of tobacco cessation interventions, building on existing Cochrane tools. The guidance covers issues relating to selection bias, performance bias, detection bias, attrition bias and selective reporting. In this paper, we set out to make this guidance publicly available, so that others can use and cite it. We provide advice for using this tool to appraise trials criticall
