An enantioconvergent nickel/photoredox-catalyzed C(sp3)-C(sp2) cross-electrophile coupling of α-chlorobenzyl silanes and germanes with aryl bromides is reported. This protocol makes use of a Hantzsch ester as an organic reductant and furnishes chiral 1,1-diarylmethine silanes and germanes with high enantioselectivity under mild reaction conditions. This work expands the development of enantioconvergent cross-electrophile coupling reactions adjacent to silicon and germanium atoms and provides direct access to valuable chiral benzhydryl silane and germane motifs.

The cross-reactivity of filarial heteroantigens, the non-availability of adult Wuchereria bancrofti for antigen extraction, and the lack of structural information on purified filarial heteroantigens make the serological diagnosis of W. bancrofti infection in man a difficult problem. The use of immune sera from cattle infected with Setaria digitata when carrying out the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) largely eliminated the cross-reactions with serum antibodies generally seen in subjects showing no evidence of W. bancrofti infection.

Concomitant allergic reactions to multiple drugs are uncommon. We report the case of a 66-year-old woman who presented with concomitant sensitization to inhaled budesonide and oral nystatin presenting as allergic contact stomatitis and systemic allergic contact dermatitis. The dot-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect Cysticercus cellulosae antibodies in sera of patients with neurocysticercosis. Olefin cross metathesis has been employed for the first time for the postpolymerization chemical modification of porous polymers. High quality microspheres of poly(divinylbenzene) were synthesized by the precipitation polymerization of divinylbenzene-55 in porogenic solvents, and the olefin cross metathesis reactions of the pendent (polymer-bound) vinyl groups not consumed by polymerization were performed with diverse coupling partners in dichloromethane using the Grubbs 2 catalyst, leading to microspheres decorated with a wide range of functional groups.
