Anomalous origin of the right coronary artery (RCA) from the left sinus of Valsalva (LSV) is rare and has only recently been recognized as a cause of sudden cardiac death in otherwise healthy individuals. In this report, we describe two cases of anomalous origin of the RCA from the LSV. In the first case, a previously healthy 11-year-old girl died suddenly and unexpectedly. An autopsy revealed no abnormalities, except for anomalous origin of the RCA from the LSV. The fatalities associated with the riding and handling of horses in South Australia over the 11-year period 1973-1983 are reviewed. There were 18 deaths, including two sudden natural deaths in the saddle and one drowning. The 15 cases of horse-related trauma represent a death rate of approximately one per million population per annum. Thirteen of the deaths were the result of a head injury after a fall. Nine persons were not wearing protective headgear. The two principal groups at risk were male professional riders with a mean age of 32 years and female amateurs with a mean age of 19 years.

We present a 43-year-old immunocompetent man who developed meningitis caused by Pseudallescheria boydii. The patient had no history of near drowning, trauma, steroid administration, operations or any other underlying systemic disease. In the present study, a retrospective evaluation of suicide cases in the city of Port Said from 1998 to 2004 is done. The demographic data of the cases were evaluated. There were 80 cases of suicide 54 of them (67.5%) involved males. Age distribution showed a predominance in the age range 20-30 years. Methods of suicide included rodenticides intake in 25% of cases, drowning in 18.75%, burns in 16.25%, firearm injuries in 13.75%, jumping from height in 10%, drug intake in 8.75% and hanging in 7.5%.
