A 59-year-old woman with complaints of pollakisuria and dysuria, was referred to our hospital. Magnetic resonance imageing (MRI) revealed a tumor, about 59 mm in diameter. Cystoscopy showed a submucosal tumor covered with a normal mucosa. Histological diagnosis was leiomyoma of the urinary bladder by transurethral biopsy. So we performed complete resection of the tumor. To our knowledge, 30 cases of leiomyoma of the urinary bladder by transurethral resection have been reported in the Japanese literature.

Migration of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) to the urinary bladder is very rare. We describe a case in which transabdominal sonography demonstrated such migration of an IUD in a 30-year-old woman who sought treatment for pelvic pain and dysuria. The IUD had originally been inserted 10 years earlier, and the patient had given birth without complications 2 years before the onset of her symptoms. Cytoscopic examination confirmed the diagnosis and allowed removal of the IUD.

Clinical, radiological and pathological features of two cats with prostatic carcinoma are reported. In both cats the presenting history included signs of lower urinary tract disease with haematuria and dysuria. Prostatomegaly was visible radiographically in one cat; an irregular intraprostatic urethra was seen on retrograde contrast urethrography in both cats. In one of the cats, neoplasia was suspected on the basis of a transurethral catheter biopsy. Following a poor response to palliative treatment in both cases, euthanasia was performed with histological confirmation of the diagnosis.

Ultrasonography is often recommended as the first diagnostic imaging modality in patients with hematuria or dysuria. It can provide information relative to the capacity of the urinary bladder, changes in bladder outline, changes in wall thickness, identification of mural and luminal masses, and identification of extrinsic lesions that may displace the bladder wall causing changes in its shape. Ultrasonography allows an evaluation of the entire urinary tract (except distal urethra) in both female and male dogs as well as the sublumbar region for lymphadenopathy.

OBJECTIVE: To study the diagnosis and treatment of prostatic malakoplakia.
METHOD: Two cases of malakoplakia were reported, and the cases and articles were reviewed.
RESULT: The disease is an inflammation of the prostate, and lower immunocompetence is concomitance. The patients had symptoms of dysuria and urethralgia. The tubercle could be found. Pathological section revealed malakoplakia cells and Michaelis-Gutman inclusion bodies. Many patients were performed radical prostatectomy because of misdiagnosis.
CONCLUSION: Biopsy of the prostate and antibiotics should be used clinically.

We described for the first time an alkaline encrusting cystitis in a patient with the acquired immune deficiency. This is an entity characterized by severe dysuria and long standing urinary frequency, alkaline urine and radiographically visible calcification of the urinary bladder. It has been observed in patients with permanent Foley catheter, persistent infections due to microorganisms with urolytic activity, urinary bilharziosis or tuberculosis, or malignant bladder tumors. None of these entities were described and the patient had all conditions for this syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: A case of a cyst located in the bladder neck in a female patient is described. The rarity of this condition prompted us to report the present case.
METHODS: The patient presented with urinary infection and posteriorly developed difficulty in voiding.
RESULTS: The US, urographic and cystoscopic studies disclosed a cyst located in the bladder neck, which was confirmed by the surgical and histopathological findings.
CONCLUSION: This uncommon condition involving the bladder neck or trigone should be considered when making the differential diagnosis in patients with dysuria.

We report a case of rhabdomyosarcoma of the prostate. The patient was a 56-year-old man who complained of anal pain and dysuria. Tumor of the prostate was suspected after rectal examination. Multiple metastatic lesions were found in the lungs and liver. A needle biopsy of the prostate revealed rhabdomyosarcoma. He received chemotherapy, using Etoposide and responded slightly. Subsequently VAC-therapy was also performed. Although the patient improved temporarily, he died 4 months after admission.

Because eosinophilic cystitis is rare, the authors present two cases of this inflammatory condition. In one, eosinophilic ureteritis presented as ureteral obstruction; this is only the second such case to be reported. The literature on eosinophilic cystitis is reviewed. The condition affects people of all ages and its cause is unknown. The clinical presentation varies, but hematuria is a constant feature with urinary frequency and dysuria being common. Management is also variable, ranging from treatment for symptoms only to aggressive surgical therapy.

In a case of acute Reiter's syndrome with severe vulvitis the diagnosis was based on the presence of a vaginal discharge and dysuria, arthritis, conjunctivitis, buccal ulceration, keratodermia blenorrhagica, and HLA B27 tissue-typing antigen. The vulval lesions were similar in appearance to those of circinate vulvitis. The acute histological change were confined to shallow ulceration with an inflammatory infiltration of the subjacent dermis. Coincidential lichen sclerosus et atrophicus was present, which could have been masked by the acute lesions.

Forty female patients suffering for long periods from frequency, urgency, and dysuria without any definite organic cause received nortriptyline chloride for three weeks. In 75 percent there was either considerable improvement or total disappearance of urinary complaints. At the same time the in vitro effects of the drug were tested using the isometric muscle contraction technique. Nortriptyline was found to have anticholinergic properties. The importance of this effect in the clinical study and the possible mode of action of the drug are discussed.

Idiopathic scrotal calcinosis is a rare disorder characterised by multiple calcified nodules on the scrotal skin appearing in childhood or early adulthood. The exact aetiology is not known and calcium level in the blood remains normal in all individuals. Since only a few cases have been reported in the literature, a case is reported here with a review of literature. The present case is of a 40-year-old male presenting with dysuria and multiple painless nodules on the scrotum.

Diverticulum of female urethra is rare, often discovered during complications. We report a case of diverticulum of female urethra containing multiple calculi in a multiparous woman of 52 years old. She has consulted for dysuria and a hard painful periurethral mass in the anterior vagina wall. The diagnosis was easily established by physical examination and confirmed by plain radiographs of the lower urinary tract and endovaginal ultrasound. The patient was treated successfully by diverticulectomy.

The presence of retroperitoneal lymphnodes is well known in sarcoidosis. We observed in two patients unilateral hydronephrosis (asymptomatic in one; dysuria in the other), and in one patient urine retention due to compression of both ureters; this patient also had jaundice due to lymphnode compression of the biliary tract. In another four patients we noted retroperitoneal lymphnodes without compression. We conclude that retroperitoneal impairment may be a previously unreported complication of Sarcoidosis.

Dilatation of Cowper's gland duct was diagnosed in four men with symptoms including post-voiding dribbling, frequency of micturition, dysuria and hematuria. Cystourethrography gave the correct diagnosis in all cases. Treatment consisted of transurethral incision of the cystic excretory duct, providing marsupialization into the urethra. Investigation of longstanding or recurrent episodes of urethral symptoms in men should include cystourethrography with this lesion in mind. It seems to be less rare than was previously assumed.

Many common genitourinary complaints may be related to sexual abuse. We report five patients referred to a Pediatric Nephrology Clinic who demonstrate some of the symptoms and signs caused by abuse, such as dysuria, genital and urinary tract infections, voiding dysfunction, and genital trauma. Difficulties in eliciting histories are described. Although these genitourinary complaints may be due to a variety of etiologies, sexual abuse should not be overlooked. Suggestions for a management approach are made.

We report 2 patients who were operated on for hypospadias in whom severe dysuria developed several weeks after the removal of a Foley catheter, which had been in place for two and eight days, respectively. Distal urethral narrowing was diagnosed by endoscopy and by micturating cystourethrography. Since we believe the urethral stricture was caused by the indwelling catheter, we now use cystotomy for urinary diversion in all patients operated on for hypospadias.
