Recognition of injuries to the cervical spine is of critical importance. Such injuries may be difficult to recognize in patients who have an altered level of consciousness or other significant injuries. We present the case of an alert ambulatory patient with no complaint of neck pain, no tenderness of the neck on physical examination, and no history of trauma who, while being evaluated for fever, was found to have an unstable cervical-spine fracture that was not present on radiographs done one year earlier.

Changes in the concepts regarding epiglottis have occurred over the last two decades. Supraglottis, once thought to occur exclusively in the pediatric population, is now recognized in adults. Supraglottis is a well-defined syndrome usually caused by a bacterial infection by Haemophilus influenzae type B. Recently, other organisms have been implicated as etiologic agents in cases of supraglottitis. Documented viral supraglottitis is very rare, and adult supraglottitis due to herpes simplex virus-I has not been reported to our knowledge.

The epiglottis plays an important role in preventing food of different consistencies from entering the airway during swallowing. Calcification of epiglottis can, potentially, alter and limit its movement causing aspiration amongst other swallowing problems. Isolated calcification of the epiglottis and its clinical presentation remains a poorly understood entity for radiologists as well as clinicians. Therefore, it is important to recognize the imaging features of epiglottic calcification, and it's known clinical presentations to help clinicians with early diagnosis and management.

Epidermolysis bullosa dystrophica is a rare hereditary skin disease of infancy in which minor trauma causes blister formation. We report a rare case of epidermolysis bullosa dystrophica (recessive) with a stenosis of the larynx due to epiglottic deformity. We performed a tracheotomy, and we detained a trachea aperture in the long term this time. In a characteristic of a disease though stimulation to the trachea causes the erosion on a trachea mucous membrane, postoperative course was uneventful and we are going to observe it in future.

70 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of larynx and hypopharynx were examined by computed tomography; the TNM staging of tumors by CT, by endoscopy and by surgical operation was reviewed. CT proved to be reliable both to recognize the presence of neoplasms, with the exception of those very superficial, and their deep spreading to pre-epiglottic and para-laryngeal spaces, to the soft tissues of the neck and to the cartilages. Therefore CT is the examination of choice in laryngeal neoplasms staging, because it precisely completes the clinical and endoscopical informations.

A 10-year retrospective study of age-frequency, sites of infection, and pre-existing conditions in 297 children with Hemophilus influenzae (HI) disease seen at Grady Memorial Hospital from 1974 through 1984 is described. The majority of the patients were black (73%) and of lower socioeconomic status and were less than 2 years of age.
