Identification of moyamoya disease based on cerebral oxygen saturation signals using machine learning methods.

Moyamoya is a cerebrovascular disease with a high mortality rate. Early detection and mechanistic studies are necessary. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) was used to study the signals of the cerebral tissue oxygen saturation index (TOI) and the changes in oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin concentrations (HbO and Hb) in 64 patients with moyamoya disease and 64 healthy volunteers. The wavelet transforms (WT) of TOI, HbO and Hb signals, as well as the wavelet phase coherence (WPCO) of these signals from the left and right frontal lobes of the same subject, were calculated. Features were ext

Integrated assessment of corrosion behaviour in drinking water distribution systems using experimental analysis, machine learning, and a unified corrosion-scaling index.

Corrosion and scaling in drinking water distribution systems negatively affects the pipe lifespan, water quality, and cost of maintenance. Empirical corrosion and scaling indices are derived based on physicochemical water parameters. Each of these indices comes from different chemical assumptions and interpretation ranges. They provide conflicting results for the same sample of water. This study employed a hybrid methodology integrating experimental investigation, statistical analysis, and machine learning modeling toward enhanced evaluation of corrosion. Water samples were collected during an

Prediction of adsorption energies of CmHnOp (m ≤ 2, n ≤ 6, p ≤ 2) on transition metals and alloys with machine learning methods.

Metal-based catalysts are widely used in many kinds of reactions, including the hydrogenation of CO2 to alcohols. Adsorption energies of key intermediates have often been used as descriptors in high-throughput catalyst screening. However, establishing machine learning models to accurately predict adsorption energies of widely spanned species is still challenging. In the present article, we explored the predictive power of sure independence screening and sparsifying operator (SISSO), multilayer perceptron regression (MLPR), random forest regression (RFR), kernel ridge regression (KRR), support

Identifying key clinical and biochemical predictors of treatment outcomes in inflammatory bowel disease: a real-world evidence study.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and Ulcerative colitis, often shows variable responses to biological therapies. Identifying the most significant variables for predicting the response to these therapies could help prioritize efforts in data collection and preprocessing. This study evaluated the predictive performance of machine learning models in forecasting remission and response to vedolizumab and ustekinumab in the treatment of IBD. The goal was not to compare the two therapies, but rather to identify the variables most influential in predicting response for each
