We studied 39 blind painful eyes in 39 patients who were treated with retrobulbar injection of absolute (96%) alcohol for their severe ocular pain at the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital from January 1984 to January 1987. There were 21 (54%) male and 18 (46%) female patients; all were followed for at least three months. The protracted ocular pain was mainly due to: end-stage (absolute) glaucoma in 31 (80%) eyes, uveitis or endophthalmitis in four (10%) eyes, or corneal ulcer in two (5%) eyes. This is a review of neovascularization of the iris and the neovascular glaucoma that often follows. With the aging of our population, this has become a more frequent cause of blindness and enucleation of eyes. Iris neovascularization is never primary, but is always secondary to other ocular disorders. The pathology is described based on the study of 110 globes. A case of bilateral uveal melanoma in a 54-year-old man is described. On admission of the patient for a choroidal melanoma of the left eye, an asymptomatic ciliary-body tumour was detected in his right eye. A thorough general examination did not reveal any metastases. Melanocytoma, a specific variant of melanocytic naevus may occur anywhere along the uveal tract but most commonly it is on the optic disk and adjacent choroid. We report a case of necrotic melanocytoma with associated polycystic liver disease and peripheral neurofibromatosis in a 70-year old man who was referred to the eye unit of the Korle bu Teaching hospital, Accra, Ghana with a CT scan suggestive of choroidal melanoma. Histopathological features of the enucleated eye revealed necrotic melanocytoma. He also had other systemic conditions. The case is presented and the literature reviewed.

INTRODUCTION: Melanoma of the iris and ciliary body may be associated with secondary glaucoma. Treatment with proton beam radiotherapy (PBRT) to the anterior segment can also elevate intraocular pressure (IOP), resulting in uncontrolled glaucoma, often requiring enucleation. BACKGROUND: To evaluate the safety of different doses of subconjunctival cetuximab in rabbits.
METHODS: After general anesthesia rabbits received a subconjunctival injection of 2.5 mg in 0.5 ml, 5 mg in 1 ml, and 10 mg in 2 ml of cetuximab in their right eyes (two rabbits in each group). The biocompatibility of heparin surface modified poly(methyl methacrylate) intraocular lenses (IOLs) was evaluated in two experiments following implantation in the anterior and posterior eye chambers of adult cynomolgus monkeys.
