This study was undertaken to assess a multiple-marker RT-PCR and Southern blot assay for detection of metastases in frozen sections of sentinel lymph nodes from breast cancer patients. In this retrospective study the clinical features in 16 children with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) were reviewed and classified into three stages. The muscle biopsy specimen were routinely processed with liquid-nitrogen-isopentane and 8 micron thick frozen-sections were studied for histochemical changes. The clinical features in Type III SMA resembled with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy and the muscle biopsy was useful in distinguishing these two entities. It is being evaluated that prenatal diagnosis of SMA is possible with DNA technology developed recently in our country.

Leptospira interrogans serovar autumnalis strain 621 was proven to be infective for swine by intranasal and ocular inoculation and by contact exposure. Benign mucinous cystadenofibromas are very rare tumors of the ovary. They often mimic malignant pelvic tumors in terms of size and appearance. Here, we report a case of a 34-year-old female patient presenting with a 20 × 18 cm large abdominal mass. Clinically and radiologically, a diagnosis of a borderline malignant ovarian mass was made, and an exploratory laparotomy was planned. Intraoperative frozen section evaluation resulted in a diagnosis of benign mucinous cystadenofibroma.
