Testicular biopsies were done in 15 consecutive patients who were believed to have extragonadal germ-cell tumours. 8 patients (53%) had carcinoma-in-situ (CIS) in the gonads, although none had clinical signs of tumour. In addition, 3 of these patients had small areas of invasive tumour growth. Germ-cell tumours can only be diagnosed as being extragonadal in origin if testicular biopsy appearances are normal.

One hundred sixty-six patients with germ-cell tumors (GCT) of the testis, retroperitoneum, and mediastinum were treated with cyclophosphamide, vinblastine, bleomycin, dactinomycin, and cisplatin (VAB-6), with and without maintenance chemotherapy. The overall complete response (CR) rate was 78%, 67% to chemotherapy alone, and 11% after chemotherapy and resection of viable residual cancer. The CR rate in all patients with seminoma was uniformly high, while the CR rate of patients with testicular nonseminomatous germ-cell tumors (79%) was superior to that of similar tumors of extragonadal origin

A case of bilateral testicular germ cell tumor of different cell types was found to have a mature teratoma in the metastatic region. Histology of the right testis revealed seminoma and embryonal carcinoma while the left testis revealed seminoma and mature teratoma. A mature teratoma, containing cartilage components, was also found in the right para-aortic lymph node. The findings of the case are described and the literature on cases with maturation in the metastatic region are reviewed.

The case report is that of a 15 years old boy presenting with unilateral undescended testis and hypospadias. Surgical exploration disclosed an absence of regression of the Müllerian system and an intra-abdominal gonad replaced by a seminoma. There are arguments to suspect that the seminoma arose from a gonadoblastoma controlateral testis biopsy disclosed a germ cell abnormality consistent with an in situ neoplastic transformation. A 12-year-old girl with a mixed malignant germ cell tumor of the ovary, treated by surgery and chemotherapy, developed systemic mast cell disease (SMCD) approximately 3 months after chemotherapy. Hematologic malignancies have previously been noted in patients with mediastinal germ cell tumors but this is the first report of a primary ovarian germ cell neoplasm associated with SMCD.

To characterize further the radiosensitivity of severe combined immunodeficiency (scid) mice, the induction of micronuclei (MN) in polychromatic erythrocytes as well as cell killing and translocation induction in stem cell spermatogonia was studied.
