A case of multiple, eruptive pyogenic granuloma developed on a region of the burned skin: can erythromycin be a treatment option?

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a common, acquired, benign angiomatous proliferation of the skin and mucous membranes that develops spontaneously or traumatically. PG usually occurs in children and young adults and predominantly located on neck, hands, and extremities. There are numerous theories about the pathogenesis of PG, but the etiology is not clear. Although the occurrence of PG after trauma to the skin is very common, multiple lesions of PG secondary to burn are rare in the literature. In this report, we present a case of multiple, eruptive PG that developed on the burned skin of a 17-month

Conservative tissue sparing management of pediatric pyogenic granuloma with preserved joint function: A narrative review with an illustrative case.

The pediatric population presents specific management challenges with pyogenic granuloma (PG), particularly when located near joints, as surgical treatment may compromise mobility. While surgical excision remains the gold standard treatment, emerging reports suggest that more conservative approaches may be suitable in select cases, offering less invasive treatment options. We report the preservation of joint function while successfully resolving pyogenic digital granuloma with topical steroid-antibiotic preparations. A healthy 7-year-old girl presented with progressive left middle and ring fin

Unusual clinical presentation of oral pyogenic granuloma with severe alveolar bone loss: A case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a localized, reddish and vascularized hyperplastic lesion of the connective tissue which occurs in the oral cavity. In most cases, the presence of this lesion does not show alveolar bone resorption. The pathology is diagnosed clinically with some caution. However, the diagnosis and treatment are usually corroborated with histopathological evidence. CASE SUMMARY: Three clinical cases of PG associated with bone loss were described in this study. The three patients presented tumor-like growth which bled on touch, and were associated with local irritant fact

Pyogenic granuloma, an impaired wound healing process, linked to vascular growth driven by FLT4 and the nitric oxide pathway.

Pyogenic granuloma, also called lobular capillary hemangioma, is a condition usually occurring in skin or mucosa and often related to prior local trauma or pregnancy. However, the etiopathogenesis of pyogenic granuloma is poorly understood and whether pyogenic granuloma being a reactive process or a tumor is unknown. In an attempt to clarify this issue, we performed genome-wide transcriptional profiling of laser-captured vessels from pyogenic granuloma and from a richly vascularized tissue, placenta, as well as, from proliferative and involutive hemangiomas. Our study identified a gene signatu

Vascular tumors arising in port-wine stains: two cases of pyogenic granuloma and a case of acquired tufted angioma.

Three female patients affected by intradermal vascular tumors were presented. The lesions were acquired and developed from preexisting port-wine stains (PWS). Among the three patients observed, two had a pyogenic granuloma (PG) and the third patients had tufted angiomas. As reported earlier, formation of a PG within the lesion of a PWS supports the assumption that arteriovenous anastomoses are associated with its pathogenesis. Occurrence of tufted angioma from a PWS, as well as coexisting but separate PWS has been reported. However, the tufted angiomas of our patient were located in different

Postoperative spindle cell nodules (PSCN) resembling sarcomas: an atypical granulation tissue or atypical pyogenic granuloma with exuberant myofibroblastic component?

Three cases of PSCN that developed 6-8 weeks after operations to the lower genital tract in two women, and after tooth removal in a 9-year-old boy are described. The lesions averaged 2 cm. in diameter and simulated spindle cell sarcomas because of their high mitotic rate, and marked cellularity. On follow-up (2-6 years) all patients were found to be free of disease. Immunohistochemical testing of the spindle cells showed a strong positivity for vimentin, and muscle actin and a weak, focal and inconstant positivity for F. VIII R.A., and Ulex E. The was total negativity for desmin, smooth muscle

Paradoxical Pyogenic Granuloma Associated With Ramucirumab but Not Bevacizumab: A Case Suggesting Differential Effects of VEGF Receptor and Ligand Inhibition.

Pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular lesion that may bleed repeatedly and impair daily activities. Although ramucirumab is an anti-angiogenic agent, paradoxical pyogenic granuloma has rarely been reported during its use. We describe a 75-year-old man with advanced lung adenocarcinoma who developed multiple bleeding pyogenic granulomas during docetaxel plus ramucirumab therapy. Histopathology confirmed lobular capillary proliferation consistent with pyogenic granuloma. Because the lesions repeatedly bled and reduced quality of life, they were excised and ramucirumab was discontinued. The pat

Complete excision and soft tissue augmentation after recurrence of a peripheral ossifying fibroma as a pyogenic granuloma: A case report.

Reactive lesions of soft tissue are common oral lesions that are usually non-neoplastic growths without pain; however, they can interfere with oral hygiene and plaque control, and if present in the anterior segment, they can cause esthetics problems. In this case, there was a reactive lesion at the gingiva of the left maxillary central incisor area. The particular consideration about this case was the recurrence of a peripheral ossifying fibroma as a pyogenic granuloma, indicating the association between reactive gingival lesions. The history of several recurrences due to incomplete removal sh

[Immunohistochemical criteria for differential diagnostics of squamous epithelium changes in pyogenic granuloma and squamous cell carcinoma of the oral mucosa].

The paper presents an example of differential diagnostic studies for pyogenic granuloma and oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). In the described case immunohistochemistry with antibodies to Ki-67 and Gli1 was used as conventional histological procedure proved to be inconvenient for adequate diagnostics. The immunohistochemical study established increased proliferative activity of epithelial cells specific both pyogenic granuloma and oral SCC, but intensive Gli1 protein expression in membranes and cytoplasm of epithelial cells with malignant transformation allowed differentiation of these neopl

Amelanotic Melanoma in the Vicinity of Acquired Melanocytic Nevi and not Arising from Agminated Melanocytic Nevi: Masquerading as Pyogenic Granuloma.

Amelanotic melanoma (AMM) presenting as pyogenic granuloma and occurring in the vicinity of acquired melanocytic nevi is rare. Herein, we report such a manifestation in a 68-year-old male who presented with the painful red nodule and multiple pigmented patches involving the left great toe. Histopathological examination of skin biopsy taken from the nodule with an immunohistochemical study using HMB45 and S-100 confirmed the diagnosis of AMM. Biopsy from the pigmented patch near the nodule showed features of melanocytic nevus. Investigative work up revealed metastatic deposits in the left ingui

Apoptosis and expression of Bax/Bcl-2 proteins in pyogenic granuloma: a comparative study with granulation tissue and capillary hemangioma.

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) has been regarded as a florid expression of granulation tissue (GT) proliferation and shows distinct biological behavior compared to conventional GT. PG has not been examined from a standpoint of apoptosis. METHODS: PG (15 cases), GT (14 cases) and capillary hemangioma (CH, 8 cases) were compared using in situ 3'-tailing reaction (ISTR), a histochemical method for identifying apoptotic cells, and immunohistochemistry for Ki-67, Bcl-2 and Bax proteins, in order to clarify and involvement of apoptosis in the difference of biological characteristics between PG

Effectiveness and safety of 0.5% timolol solution in the treatment of pyogenic granuloma: A randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled study.

Introduction Pyogenic granulomas are benign vascular lesions of the skin and mucosa which are often a source of concern because of their recurrent bleeding even with minimal trauma. Current treatment for pyogenic granuloma is ablative; no medical therapy is standardized to date. Timolol, due to its vasoconstrictive effect, vascular growth factor inhibition and apoptosis promotion properties, is a potential therapeutic option. Objectives: To assess the effectiveness and safety of topical timolol in the treatment of pyogenic granulomas. Methods A two-centre, double-blind and placebo-controlled t

Exacerbated oral pyogenic granuloma in type 2 diabetes mellitus and advanced periodontitis: clinical management and pathophysiological insights: a case report.

Oral pyogenic granuloma (OPG) is a benign vascular proliferation that presents as a solitary, pedunculated, or sessile lesion, associated with irritative factors. Various systemic disorders, particularly type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), may contribute to its onset and progression through inflammatory and endothelial mechanisms. This clinical case report describes a 63-year-old male with a history of controlled hypertension and DM2 with glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) of 7.97%, diagnosed with stage III, grade C generalized periodontitis. Therapeutic management began with periodontal phase I, includi

Surgical and mucogingival management of an oral pyogenic granuloma associated with fixed orthodontic treatment in an adolescent patient: a case report.

Oral pyogenic granuloma (OPG) is a reactive vascular lesion that may worsen during orthodontic treatment due to biofilm-induced inflammation. This clinical case describes the surgical and mucogingival management of an OPG associated with fixed orthodontic appliances in an adolescent patient. A 12-year-old male patient presented with an oval, pedunculated lesion with a smooth surface and soft consistency, measuring approximately 8.5 × 6.5 mm, located on the attached gingiva adjacent to tooth #21. Therapeutic management consisted of complete surgical removal of the lesion under local anesthesia;

Use of a water-cooled Nd: YAG pulsed laser in the treatment of giant gingival pyogenic granulomas during pregnancy.

Pyogenic granuloma is a benign growth characterized by active vascular proliferation and is prone to occurring during pregnancy. Given the complicated conditions of this special group of patients, it is controversial to perform removal therapy before delivery. Here, two giant pregnancy pyogenic granulomas of a patient at 34 weeks gestation were safely, completely and minimally invasively removed by water-cooled Nd: YAG laser without anesthetic agents, suturing or antibiotics. No recurrence was observed after 1 year. This removal therapy immediately relieved the problem of patient nutrition int
