Snake model-based lymphoma segmentation for sequential CT images.

The measurement of the size of lesions in follow-up CT examinations of cancer patients is important to evaluate the success of treatment. This paper presents an automatic algorithm for identifying and segmenting lymph nodes in CT images across longitudinal time points. Firstly, a two-step image registration method is proposed to locate the lymph nodes including coarse registration based on body region detection and fine registration based on a double-template matching algorithm. Then, to make the initial segmentation approximate the boundaries of lymph nodes, the initial image registration res

A Lightweight Privacy-Preserving Federated Learning Framework for Heterogeneity-Resilient Skin Cancer Diagnosis.

Machine Learning (ML) demonstrates dermatologist level accuracy in skin cancer diagnosis, yet its practical adoption is constrained by data silos and privacy issues. While Federated Learning (FL) addresses these limitations, it remains susceptible to data heterogeneity and gradient leakage attacks. To overcome these challenges, we introduce a privacy-preserving FL framework tailored for encrypted dermoscopic image analysis. Our proposed framework integrates a Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE)-enabled variant of Stochastic Controlled Averaging (SCA), enhancing model convergence with Non-IID da

Improved differentiation of cavernous malformation and acute intraparenchymal hemorrhage on CT using an AI algorithm.

This study aimed to evaluate the utility of an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm in differentiating between cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM) and acute intraparenchymal hemorrhage (AIH) on brain computed tomography (CT). A retrospective, multireader, randomized study was conducted to validate the performance of an AI algorithm in differentiating AIH from CCM on brain CT. CT images of CM and AIH (< 3 cm) were identified from the database. Six blinded reviewers, including two neuroradiologists, two radiology residents, and two emergency department physicians, evaluated CT images from 28

Extracranial versus intracranial references in individual cephalometric analysis.

This study was undertaken to determine whether angles SNA and ANB genuinely represent both the degree of maxillary prognathism and the intermaxillary relationship in natural head position (NHP). Pearson's r correlation coefficients were used to assess the associations between these angles, and variables based on NHP and extracranial reference lines. A large sample (n = 106) was used, comprising subjects with a variety of facial patterns. This was also divided into subgroups comprising subjects with similar facial configurations, determined by natural head position parameters. For the subgroups

Multimodal medical endoscopic image analysis via progressive disentangle-aware contrastive learning.

Accurate segmentation of laryngo-pharyngeal tumors is crucial for precise diagnosis and effective treatment planning. However, traditional single-modality imaging methods often fall short of capturing the complex anatomical and pathological features of these tumors. In this study, we present an innovative multi-modality representation learning framework based on the Align-Disentangle-Fusionmechanism that seamlessly integrates 2D White Light Imaging (WLI) and Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) pairs to enhance segmentation performance. A cornerstone of our approach is multi-scale distribution alignment,

Endo4DGSLAM: Multi-level deformable modeling with redundancy reduction for endoscopic non-rigid SLAM.

Medical endoscopic SLAM enables real-time pose estimation and 3D mapping inside the human body, holding significant value for surgical navigation. Although emerging 3DGS improves SLAM through fast, high-quality rendering, mainstream methods remain constrained by the static-scene assumption. Recent dynamic GS-SLAM methods struggle with irregular tissue motion and suffer from high computational and deformation modeling overhead, hindering real-time online optimization. To address these challenges, we present a dynamic GS-SLAM framework specifically tailored for endoscopic environments. To handle

IterMask3D: Unsupervised anomaly detection and segmentation with test-time iterative mask refinement in 3D brain MRI.

Unsupervised anomaly detection and segmentation methods train a model to learn the training distribution as 'normal'. In the testing phase, they identify patterns that deviate from this normal distribution as 'anomalies'. To learn the 'normal' distribution, prevailing methods corrupt the images and train a model to reconstruct them. During testing, the model attempts to reconstruct corrupted inputs based on the learned 'normal' distribution. Deviations from this distribution lead to high reconstruction errors, which indicate potential anomalies. However, corrupting an input image inevitably ca

Toward automated detection of microbleeds with anatomical scale localization using deep learning.

Cerebral Microbleeds (CMBs) are chronic deposits of small blood products in the brain tissues, which have explicit relation to various cerebrovascular diseases depending on their anatomical location, including cognitive decline, intracerebral hemorrhage, and cerebral infarction. However, manual detection of CMBs is a time consuming and error-prone process because of their sparse and tiny structural properties. The detection of CMBs is commonly affected by the presence of many CMB mimics that cause a high false-positive rate (FPR), such as calcifications and pial vessels. This paper proposes a

MR Imaging of Wrist Ligaments.

This article discusses the normal anatomy and pathologic appearances of the intrinsic and extrinsic wrist ligaments using MR Imaging. Technological advances in surface coil design and higher magnetic field strengths have improved radiologists' ability to consistently visualize these small ligaments in their entirety. Wrist ligament anatomy, in the context of proper physiologic function, is emphasized, including common normal variants, and their appearances on MR imaging. The spectrum of disorders, incorporating overlapping appearances of senescent degenerative changes, and destabilizing ligame

Applying tensor-based morphometry to parametric surfaces can improve MRI-based disease diagnosis.

Many methods have been proposed for computer-assisted diagnostic classification. Full tensor information and machine learning with 3D maps derived from brain images may help detect subtle differences or classify subjects into different groups. Here we develop a new approach to apply tensor-based morphometry to parametric surface models for diagnostic classification. We use this approach to identify cortical surface features for use in diagnostic classifiers. First, with holomorphic 1-forms, we compute an efficient and accurate conformal mapping from a multiply connected mesh to the so-called s

Three-way (N-way) fusion of brain imaging data based on mCCA+jICA and its application to discriminating schizophrenia.

Multimodal fusion is an effective approach to better understand brain diseases. However, most such instances have been limited to pair-wise fusion; because there are often more than two imaging modalities available per subject, there is a need for approaches that can combine multiple datasets optimally. In this paper, we extended our previous two-way fusion model called "multimodal CCA+joint ICA", to three or N-way fusion, that enables robust identification of correspondence among N data types and allows one to investigate the important question of whether certain disease risk factors are shar

INTRODUCTION: This study addresses automatic detection of skin changes especially asymmetry and symmetry of the lesions and their crucial role in the definition of dermatological asymmetry measure. METHOD: The present research employs an integrated methodology, combining systematic evaluation of skin lesions. In the paper, we use unsupervised learning methods to assess the asymmetry of the lesions for dermatology as tool for computer-aided diagnostic systems. The asymmetry features are extracted from the images as vectors and then calculated using two dermatological shape asymmetry measure (D

Trichomonas Detection in Leucorrhea Based on VIBE Method.

Trichomonas examination is one of the important items in the leucorrhea routine detection. And it cannot be recognized by still images because of the unstable morphology and unfixed focal location caused by motion characteristic. We proposed an improved VIBE algorithm. 6 videos (totally 1414 frames) are collected for testing. In order to compare the effects of the algorithms, we segment each frame artificially as ground truth. Experiments show that percentage of correct classification (PCC) achieves 88%. The proposed improved method can effectively suppress the false detection caused by the fo

E2AD: Enhanced and explainable Alzheimer's disease detection framework via anatomy- and relation-aware cross-modal knowledge distillation.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder for which MRI and PET provide complementary structural and molecular information. Yet PET remains costly and often unavailable, motivating MRI-only diagnostic systems that still benefit from multimodal supervision. Existing methods either synthesize PET from MRI or limit cross-modal learning to low-dimensional spaces, underutilizing MRI-PET complementarity and leading to limited robustness and generalizability. To address these challenges, we introduce E2AD, an Enhanced and Explainable AD detection framework that leverages an

3D Segment Anything Model With Visual Mamba for Diagnosing Placenta Accreta Spectrum.

Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) is a rare but highly dangerous obstetric disease. Early and accurate PAS diagnosis is critical for maternal health. Traditional PAS diagnosis relies on experienced doctors by analyzing the cesarean history and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data. However, district-level hospitals often lack the expertise and resources for accurate PAS diagnosis. To address these challenges, we establish the first MRI-based PAS dataset, which includes both fine-grained segmentation and classification annotations. Meanwhile, diagnosing PAS can be significantly enhanced by segmen

Correlation Routing Network for Explainable Lesion Classification in Multi-Parametric Liver MRI.

Liver tumor diagnosis is a key task in abdominal imaging examination, and there are numerous researches on automatic classifying focal liver lesions (FLL). More are in CT and ultrasound and fewer utilize MRI despite unique diagnostic advantages. The obstacles lie in dataset curation, technical complexity, and clinical explainability in liver MRI. In this paper, we propose the Correlation Routing Network (CRN) which takes in 10 MRI sequences and predicts lesion types (HCC, Cholangioma, Metastasis, Hemangioma, FNH, Cyst) as well as imaging features, to achieve both high accuracy and explainabili
