The use of the colonoscope to evaluate the cause of rectal bleeding in a series of 2200 patients has been reviewed. The most common cause of bleeding in this series was found to be neoplastic polyps, which were present in 723 patients (32 per cent). Colonic carcinoma was detected as the source of the bleeding in 425 cases (19 per cent). The authors report the case of 60 year old man with multiple jeuno-ileal metastases from a malignant melanoma of the skin revealed by jejuno-jejunal intussusceptions. INTRODUCTION: Giant inflammatory polyposis (GIP) is a rare manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and it is described as a worm-like projection of 1.5 cm or more in diameter with unclear pathogenesis. GIP may be related to the severity of IBD. GIP presents with a wide range of symptoms, including crampy abdominal pain, anemia, and intestinal obstruction. This case report describes a fatal outcome due to delayed perforation after cold snare polypectomy in a patient with bullous pemphigoid receiving oral corticosteroids. PURPOSE: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) causes benign intracranial hypertension (BIH).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A case of an 11-year-old girl with severe IDA and benign intracranial hypertension is presented.
RESULTS: Treatment of iron deficiency resulted in the resolution of BIH. Recurrence of BIH is observed with the recurrence of IDA. Chronic intermittent blood loss from the intestinal polyps was the etiology of recurrent IDA.

RATIONALE: Cronkhite-Canada Syndrome (CCS) is an idiopathic, nonhereditary syndrome haracterized by gastrointestinal (GI) polyposis and ectodermal changes including alopecia, onychatrophia, and pigmentation. CCS colon polyps were previously considered to be benign neoplasms. However, serrated adenoma was reported to be associated with malignant neoplasms in some cases of gastric and colorectal carcinomas, and esophageal cancers. A juxtapapillary duodenal polyp (measuring 1.5 x 1.0 x 1.2 cm) was removed endoscopically in a 57-year-old man who had had recurrent intestinal bleedings. Histological examination revealed a typical duodenal gangliocytic paraganglioma with carcinoid and paraganglioma-like components, as well as neuroid portions with ganglion cells. Various neuroendocrine markers (neuron-specific enolase, chromogranin, protein-gene product 9.5) were demonstrated immunohistochemically. Tests for pancreatic polypeptide, substance P, enkephalin, cholecystokinin, glucagon and S-100 proteins, were all positive.

Colonic intussusception is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction in adults and is caused by a malignant lesion in about 70% of cases. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential. We present a 64-year-old male patient with right colonic intussusception caused by a mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma (MANEC), presenting as a giant pedunculated polyp (54 mm of largest diameter). The patient underwent right colectomy with primary anastomosis and adjuvant chemotherapy. The diagnosis of intussusception of the colon in adults is difficult because of its rarity and nonspecific clinical presentation.

This paper reports an autopsy case of a 5-year and 11-month-old girl with generalized subcutaneous lipomatosis, megalencephaly, and macrodactyly. Marked emaciation and poor prognosis were the characteristic findings of this case. We thought that this case was identical with a rare syndrome which was initially reported by BANNAYAN in 1971. RATIONALE: The diagnosis of pyloric gland adenoma (PGA) can be challenging when a small lesion grows in an uncommon site, which has no characteristic imaging manifestations.
