To assess the bone mineral density status in primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), we studied 64 females with PHPT and 17 healthy women. Caroli disease is a cystic congenital malformation of the intrahepatic biliary tract, frequently associated with lithiasis. Commonly, cystic dilatations are bilateral and infrequently they affect only one hepatic lobule or segment. OBJECTIVES: Bilateral urinary obstruction is usually secondary to tumors or bilateral lithiasis. A rare case of encrusted cystitis causing bilateral hydronephrosis is described.
METHODS/RESULTS: A 70-year-old woman presented with severe dysuria and vesical tenesmus. She had previously undergone pelvic surgery and received radiotherapy for a gynecological tumor. She was diagnosed as having encrusted cystitis. Treatment with urinary acidification and antibiotics achieved complete radiological and functional recovery.

Three patients, two male and one female, 42, 64 and 20 years old respectively, with a Dubin-Johnson syndrome are reported. Both men referred jaundice since several years and in the woman's case, the onset of the illness took place during the last term of her second pregnancy. In two patients, liver aspect and it's biopsy were diagnostic. In the other, who was hospitalized because of a myocardial infarction, a hepatic gammagraphy with Tc 99 HIDA was made. No case was associated with biliary lithiasis and only one patient had other members in his family with the illness.

We report 11 infants with choledochal cyst confirmed during surgery. In none of the patients an abdominal mass was palpated during physical examination. In 10 (91%) of the patients, ERCP showed the cyst. Ultrasound was positive in 82% (9/11) of the cases. Two patients had acute relapsing pancreatitis with severe anatomical abnormalities at the pancreatobiliary junction. Multiple biliary lithiasis were seen in four cysts. CONTEXT: Urolithiasis and obesity are now public health problems with an increased incidence worldwide. Management of urolithiasis in patients with morbid obesity is usually associated with higher morbidity and mortality compared to non-obese patients. ESWL is a nonsurgical procedure for the treatment of lithiasis. BACKGROUND: Gallstone ileus is an unusual and peculiar complication of biliary lithiasis. Less than 1% of gallstones migrate into the gut, causing 25% of non-strangulated small bowell obstructions in elderly population. Diagnosis is difficult, leading to late operation. Considering the median age of the patients and the fact that in most cases surgery is delayed, there is a lot of dispute regarding the best approach.
