Preventing Excessive Gestational Weight Gain During Consecutive Pregnancies: Findings from an mHealth Intervention.

INTRODUCTION: Excessive gestational weight gain (EGWG) poses significant health risks, including increased pregnancy complications, obesity, and metabolic disorders. Addressing EGWG is critical for women with a history of EGWG, as recurrence is common in consecutive pregnancies. This study presents findings from a subanalysis of the intervention arm of the INTER-ACT multi-center randomied controlled trial (RCT), which evaluated the impact of a combined mobile health (mHealth) and face-to-face lifestyle coaching intervention on EGWG recurrence during consecutive pregnancies. METHODS: This suban

1-year physical activity coaching programme in lung transplant recipients: an RCT.

INTRODUCTION: Most lung transplant (LTX) recipients do not meet physical activity (PA) guidelines. Interventions are needed as long-term inactivity is related to morbidity and mortality. We investigated the effect of a telecoaching programme on objectively measured PA in LTX recipients. METHODS: Inactive patients (<7500 steps/day, n=90) were randomised into a light or intensive version of a 1-year PA telecoaching programme. The light intervention consisted of a step counter and a minimal version of the smartphone application. Patients randomised to the intensive intervention discussed PA barr

Feasibility of a Digital Coaching Program for Improving Mental Well-Being and Emotional Intelligence: Pragmatic Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Within the past decade, digital coaching programs (DCPs) have emerged as an evidence-based modality to improve mental well-being and emotional intelligence (EI), although there is limited evidence in real-world contexts. OBJECTIVE: This pragmatic retrospective cohort study aims to determine the preliminary effectiveness of a DCP in improving mental well-being and EI within a real-world context. We hypothesized that there would be a significant increase in mental well-being and EI. METHODS: This study included 588 people who voluntarily enrolled in an 8-week, blended care DCP offe

Feasibility of a Telehealth Physical Activity Coaching Intervention for Degenerative Cerebellar Ataxia.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Physical activity (PA) can be neuroprotective for people with neurodegenerative diseases; however, rehabilitation programs often fail to address strategies to increase long-term PA. This study evaluated the feasibility, acceptability, and effect estimates of a PA coaching program in people with degenerative cerebellar disorders (PwDCD). METHODS: Engage-Ataxia was a single-cohort intervention consisting of 5 physical therapist-delivered telehealth PA-coaching sessions over 12 weeks, with assessments pre- and post-intervention. The intervention was grounded in self-deter

Essential Coaching for Every Mother Tanzania (ECEM-TZ): Protocol for a Type 1 Hybrid Effectiveness-Implementation Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Despite global goals to improve maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes, mortality and morbidity continue to be a concern, particularly during the postnatal period in low- and middle-income countries. While mothers have the responsibility of providing ongoing care for newborns at home, they often receive insufficient newborn care education in Tanzania. Mobile health via text messaging is an ever-growing approach that may address this gap and provide timely education. OBJECTIVE: We aim to evaluate a text message intervention called Essential Coaching for Every Mother Tanzania

A pilot adaptive trial of text messages, mailed nicotine replacement therapy, and telephone coaching among primary care patients who smoke.

INTRODUCTION: Sequential multiple assignment randomized trials (SMART) inform the design of adaptive treatment interventions. We tested the feasibility of a SMART to deliver a stepped-care intervention among primary care patients who smoked daily. METHODS: In a 12-week pilot SMART (NCT04020718), we tested the feasibility of recruiting and retaining (>80 %) participants to an adaptive intervention starting with cessation text messages (SMS). The study randomly assigned participants (R1) to assessment of quit status, the tailoring variable, after either 4 or 8 weeks of SMS. The study offered co

A machine learning approach for the classification of sports based on a coaches' perspective of environmental, individual and task requirements: A sports profile analysis.

Well-designed talent programmes in sports with a focus on talent identification, orientation, development, and transfer support the engagement of young individuals and the pursuit of elite performance. To facilitate these processes, an analysis of task, environmental and individual characteristics per sport is much needed. The aims of this study were to 1) analyse whether unique profiles per sport could be established by generic characteristics and 2) to discuss similarities and differences for the potential application in talent development and transfer. By means of a validated survey, 1247 c

A Novel Expert Coaching Model in Urology, Aimed at Accelerating the Learning Curve in Robotic Prostatectomy.

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND: The surgical residency model assumes that upon completion, a surgeon is ready to practice and grow independently. However, many surgeons fail to improve after reaching proficiency, which in certain instances has correlated with worse clinical outcomes. Coaching addresses this problem and furthers surgeons' education post-residency. Currently, surgical coaching programs focus on medical students and residents, and have been shown to improve residents' and medical students' technical and non-technical abilities. Coaching programs also increase the accuracy of residents,

Youth Sport Players' Enjoyment in Team Practice Sessions: The Daily Impact of Coaches and Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction.

Sport enjoyment can be a quality marker of players' sport experience, signaling a basic need-supportive, psychologically healthy sport context linked to better well-being and health. Yet, little is known about its day-to-day variability in team practice. Fifty Norwegian adolescent female handball players (M = 14.57, SD = 1.03) completed brief questionnaires before, during, and after 11-12 practice sessions across 4 weeks. A two-level Bayesian model estimated within-person, same-occasion associations between perceived need-supportive and need-thwarting coach behaviors, basic psychological need

Thinking Global, Acting Local: Supporting Resilience Through Hyper-Local Sport Programming for Global Majority Youth.

Global majority youth face disproportionate psychosocial stressors and heightened exposure to community violence. Resilience is a key protective factor, and hyper-local sport programs may support its development through culturally responsive mentorship, family and community co-ownership, and psychologically safe spaces. This study explored how such programs in London, UK, may support resilience and perceived community safety among global majority youth. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis and a multi-stakeholder approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 38 respondents

Most modifiable risk factors for hamstring muscle injury in women's elite football are extrinsic and associated with the club, the team, and the coaching staff and not the players themselves: the UEFA Women's Elite Club Injury Study.

PURPOSE: To describe the perceived importance of suggested hamstring injury risk factors according to chief medical officers (CMOs) of European women's professional football clubs. A secondary objective was to compare if these perceptions differed between teams with a lower-than-average and higher-than-average hamstring injury burden. METHODS: The CMOs of eleven European professional women's football clubs were initially asked to suggest modifiable risk factors for hamstring injury. These risk factors were rated in according with their perceived importance on a 5-graded Likert scale. Particip
