Simulation-informed kernel-based regression models for predicting temperature distribution in microwave hyperthermia.

This work analyzes heat transfer in microwave heating process using hyperthermic approach. Predictive performance of artificial intelligence (AI) models coupled with data of mechanistic model were evaluated. The resulting predictive models provide a surrogate representation of the simulated temperature field and may support temperature assessment in microwave hyperthermia applications. The model is developed in two stages, where in the first stage, electromagnetic heating is modeled via solution of bioheat equations to compute temperature field in the tissue. Then, the results are used for bui

High-Performance Microwave-Synthesized Graphene Supercapacitive Synapses for Reservoir Preprocessing in Neuromorphic Computing.

Reservoir computing bridges the gap between artificial intelligence and the physical environment. The realization of such systems depends on artificial synapses that emulate neurobiological plasticity in response to external stimuli. Functioning as reservoirs, these synapses convert the input signals into reservoir states, which are then retrieved by the readout layer. However, energy is merely dissipated during the operation of existing artificial synapses. Herein, we propose an energy-storage-involved reservoir architecture based on graphene-based supercapacitors. Reduced graphene oxide elec

Efficacy of ultrasound-guided microwave ablation combined with chemical ablation for uterine fibroid management.

BACKGROUND: Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors of the female reproductive tract and often cause menorrhagia, pelvic pain, and infertility. Ultrasound-guided microwave ablation (MWA) has gained recognition as a minimally invasive, uterus-preserving therapy; however, incomplete ablation may compromise long-term outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of MWA combined with chemical ablation (CA) compared with MWA alone in patients with symptomatic fibroids. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included women aged 18-55 years with imaging-confirmed uterin

Hysteroscopic ablation of type 2 and type 3 fibroids using radiofrequency or microwave energy.

BACKGROUND: Minimally invasive, uterus-sparing radiofrequency (RF) and microwave (MW) ablation have been introduced under ultrasound or laparoscopic guidance to treat uterine fibroids. These technologies enable targeted coagulative necrosis, potentially minimising surgical time and trauma while shortening recovery. They can also be used under hysteroscopic guidance, although feasibility data is lacking. OBJECTIVES: To assess the feasibility and short-term outcomes of hysteroscopic RF and MW ablation for FIGO-type 2 and type 3 fibroids. PARTICIPANT: Four patients were included: two with FIGO-

Thermophysiological BioEnergy Index as a Biomarker of Biological Ageing: A Large-Scale Microwave Radiometry Study.

Background/Objectives: Biological ageing is accompanied by progressive alterations in mitochondrial metabolism, microvascular function, and thermoregulation. These processes collectively influence tissue heat production and dissipation, reflecting integrated metabolic, vascular, and thermoregulatory activity measurable at the physiological level. Passive microwave radiometry (MWR) provides a non-invasive, radiation-free method for detecting deep-tissue bioenergy emissions, complementing surface infrared thermography. To evaluate a thermophysiological Bioenergetic Index (BEI), derived from deep

Transcriptomic and metabolic profiling reveals the effects of long-term microwave exposure on testicular tissue.

The effect of electromagnetic exposure on health is becoming increasingly important as it affects many aspects of human life and health. However, the effects in environmental electromagnetic fields on the male reproductive system were still controversial, and the impacts of long-term microwave exposure on testicular tissue remain poorly defined. This study exposed rats to 30 mW/cm2 of microwave radiation (2.856 GHz) for six weeks and revealed that long-term microwave exposure damaged the testis structures, sperm motility, and morphology, affected hormone levels, energy metabolism, and induced

Evaluation study of radial and spiral based volumetric thermometry for monitoring of hepatic microwave ablation.

Microwave ablation (MWA) of hepatic tumors benefits from MR thermometry, enabling real-time temperature monitoring to guide treatment and protect healthy tissue. However, MR thermometry in the abdomen is challenging due to respiratory and intestinal motion. This study evaluates two advanced 3D imaging sequences, Stack-of-Stars (Stars) and Stack-of-Spirals (Spirals), for precise MWA thermometry in phantom and volunteer experiments. Spirals demonstrated superior temperature precision, with a standard deviation of 1.61 ± 0.11 °C in unheated regions, compared to 4.87 ± 0.74 °C for Stars (single re

Abatement of CO2 under the microwave plasma torch system assisted with low-density coal.

Greenhouse gas emissions are abundantly produced every year by human activities. They are the main cause of global warming and the changes observed in the climate. In this study, we used the microwave plasma torch system (MPT) to drive the conversion of CO2 through the Boudouard reaction pathway. The necessary microwave power applied has efficiently activated the coal used as a reductant agent to initiate the chemical decomposition of CO2. The specific energy consumption reached 94 kJ/mol to ensure the continuous decomposition process of carbon dioxide under microwave plasma torch technology a

Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Cu/Co-Based Nanoheterostructures for High-Efficiency Alcohol Oxidation.

Hybrid water splitting, using methanol or ethanol oxidation reactions (MOR and EOR) at the counter electrode during electrochemical hydrogen generation, offers an efficient alternative to the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER). This study reports Cu/Co-based core-shell nanocrystals (NCs) showing excellent performance for both MOR and EOR. The structure, composition and size of the NCs can be controlled by adjusting the synthesis parameters in a one-pot microwave-assisted process. The electrocatalytic performance of the NCs shows lower potentials for both MOR and EOR compared to the OER.

Technoeconomic Analysis of Microwave-Assisted Dry Reforming Integrated with Chemical Looping for Production of Methanol.

Methanol is a key component in producing formaldehyde, acetic acid, and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and supports a wide array of industries, including plastics, textiles, and automotive. It also plays a growing role in renewable energy solutions. However, the conventional production of methanol involves steam reforming of methane, which is very energy-intensive and produces significant quantities of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. In this research, a chemical looping scheme is combined with dry reforming of natural gas in a novel microwave reactor to produce an industrial quantity of met

Microwave-enhanced additive-free C-H amination of benzoxazoles catalysed by supported copper.

The C2-amination of benzoxazole offers wide-ranging potential for substrate expansion and the functionalisation of bioactive compounds. This study presents a green and efficient C-H amination, catalysed by CuCl and CuCl2, in acetonitrile without acidic, basic or oxidant additives that is accelerated by microwave (MW) irradiation and is completed in 1.5-2 h. A solid Cu(I) catalyst supported on aminated silica made the process cost-effective and heterogeneous, thus simplifying work-up and minimising free copper in solution. The catalyst was found to be regeneratable and reusable for up to eight
