Bronchial asthma and methemoglobinemia due to the allergy on milk was described in 34-year old man. Very marked cyanosis with 15.3% methemoglobin, E--7.2, 272% hemoglobin, 52% hematocrit, severe form of bronchial asthma with PaO2--7.63 kPa, 89% saturation, PaCO2--4.46 kPa were found. Sternal and bone biopsy showed myeloproliferative disease. Allergy testing showed positive early and late reaction on milk. Serum IgE was 1670 mu/ml, RAST and precipitin test were positive on milk. The low milk fat syndrome most commonly occurs in dairy cows fed diets with a high ratio of carbohydrate to roughage. It is characterized by markedly depressed yields of milk fat. Rumen buffers, such as sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and magnesium oxide (MgO), are known to correct the milk fat depression observed on restricted roughage rations, although by apparently different mechanisms. Healthy, midlactation cows were given intramammary infusions of 10 micrograms of endotoxin in two homolateral quarters. Productive, inflammatory, and systemic responses were studied to investigate the pathophysiological effects of mastitis on lactational performance. The incidence of cow's milk protein intolerance (CMPI) varies depending on the series. The aim of the present investigation was to determine the incidence of this disease in our population and its change over the past the years. Over the period January 1977 to December 1986, 217 patients suspected to have the disease were submitted to a cow's milk challenge test. 1,256 malnourished children, aged seven to ten years, were selected for study, 575 from Kuala Langat, 416 from Wilayah Persekutuan and 265 from Ulu Selangor. The course of louping-ill virus infection was examined in lactating goats. Seven goats were inoculated subcutaneously and titres of virus in blood and milk were monitored. Fatty acid composition of different lipidic fractions was studied in 42 samples of human milk corresponding to: colostrum 10, mature milk 10, milk from mothers of preterm infants with adequate weight for gestational age 10, milk from mothers or low-birth-weight infants 6 and milk inducing prolonged jaundice 6. Findings have been compared with previous data of literature. Nutritional and physiologic implications are discussed.

During November and December 1981 more than 50 residents in a village in Derbyshire had an acute gastrointestinal illness. One month later a second outbreak occurred affecting another 22 people. Campylobacter jejuni was isolated from 12 patients; no other gastrointestinal pathogens were identified. A case-control study showed an association with the consumption of unpasteurized milk from one particular farm. No new cases were identified for 6 months following the application of a Pasteurization Order from 26 January to 23 February 1982.
