The occurrence of cancers in patients with primary humoral immunodeficiency syndrome (X-linked agammaglobulinemia, common variable immunodeficiency, IgA deficiency) is more than mere coincidence. An increased risk of non Hodgkin's lymphoma and gastric adenocarcinoma, particularly for patients with common variable immunodeficiency, is well established. A literature review is presented on this subject with analysis of case reports, prospective and retrospective studies, and data from the Minnesota Immunodeficiency Cancer Registry.

Little information is available on the antigenic and immunogenic properties of an E. coli rough mutant: J5 derived from E. coli 0111:B4, and the relationship of J5 to other cross-reacting antigens of Enterobacteriaceae. The trace metals included calcium, manganese, zinc, magnesium, copper and iron. BACKGROUND: Transcatheter aortic valve explantation is the fastest-growing cardiac operation in the United States, yet optimal techniques are not well-defined.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we present a case of explantation of a self-expanding CoreValve Evolut PRO valve (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minnesota).
CONCLUSIONS: This report demonstrates a reproducible technique that leverages the temperature-dependent properties of nitinol to facilitate safe surgical explantation of self-expanding transcatheter aortic valves.

During the past decade, transcatheter occlusion of secundum atrial septal defects (Type II ASDs) has become a widely accepted alternative to surgical closure. To date, over 6,000 patients have been treated with the Cardia Intrasept PFO occluder (Cardia Inc., Burnsville, Minnesota) for the percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO). This is a report of the use of a modified Intrasept device to close Type II ASDs in 4 patients.

Serum inorganic phosphate was measured in 33 hospitalized patients with unipolar depression. As predicted, serum phosphate showed significant negative correlations with Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory scales sensitive to anxiety (Psychasthenia: -0.33) and somatic concern (Hypochondriasis: -0.51). This is consistent with previous observations of relative hypophosphatemia in patients with panic disorder. Clinical consequences of relative hypophosphatemia and the possible roles of hyperventilation or elevated peripheral catecholamines as mediators of this effect are discussed.
