PURPOSE: To describe the history and clinical presentation of a case of primary epibulbar molluscum contagiosum in multiple myeloma, after penetrating keratoplasty.
METHODS: A 70-year-old man, with previously diagnosed multiple myeloma and atopic dermatitis and keratoconjunctivitis, presented 6 months after right penetrating keratoplasty with white multilobular nodules of the right limbus. A 51-year-old man had reduced vision and bilateral optic disc swelling as the initial clinical manifestation of multiple myeloma. Brain imaging failed to disclose any abnormalities. We report on a 70-year-old male who developed cavernous sinus syndrome as the initial symptom of multiple myeloma. He was admitted with diplopia and ptosis in October 2004. The diagnosis of multiple myeloma and cavernous sinus syndrome due to a gross mass at the sinus base were made. Thalidomide acts on the microenvironment of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) by influencing cytokine networks, and growing evidence supports thalidomide's usefulness in the management of haematological malignancies, such as MDS. We report a case of spontaneous splenic rupture due to myelomatous infiltration of the spleen without any evidence of amyloidosis or any other complicating factors. A computer search of Medline since 1966 did not reveal any previously reported case of spontaneous splenic rupture in uncomplicated myeloma.

Here the current studies in cell DNA content of plasma cells (PC), from multiple myeloma (MM) patients is reviewed, focusing on two complementary aspects the detection of clonal abnormalities and the identification of the proliferative rate of PC. The problem of diagnosis, prognostic factors and the efficacy of therapies were investigated in 330 patients with multiple myeloma (MM) and 51 patients with benign monoclonal gammopathy (BMG)/monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS). An association between autoimmune disease and malignancy, in particular lymphoproliferative neoplasms, has been reported, as has an increased incidence of extrahepatic malignancy in primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC).
