Long-term neurocognitive effects of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy: Integrating assessments into nursing practice.

Chimeric antigen receptor t-cell (CAR-T) therapy is a newly evolving therapy with well-known acute neurotoxic effects. While the long-term neurotoxic effects of this therapy are under-researched, they exist in subsets of the post-treatment population. Nurses can focus on assessments before and after CAR-T therapy to determine the degree to which these neurotoxic effects progress. These assessments include subjective and objective tools, as well as an understanding of risk factors associated with a higher degree of adverse cognitive events. By utilizing current research, hematological nurses ca

Psychometric evaluation of a novel tool for assessing gestational diabetes and hypertension care: knowledge, attitudes, and practices of midwives and nurses.

While standardized assessment of knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to gestational diabetes and hypertension is possible with a valid tool, existing research remains limited. This prospective validation study aimed to develop and validate a novel tool to assess the KAP of midwives and obstetric nurses. We included 125 midwives and obstetric nurses who routinely care for patients with gestational diabetes and hypertension. The tool demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha): knowledge (0.729, 95% CI, 0.654-0.776), attitude (0.756, 95% CI, 0.690-0.814), and practice

Prescribing by Physician Associates and Nurse Practitioners in Older Adults Is Outpacing Traditional Prescribers: Implications for Practice in American Medicine.

Prescribing is a significant activity undertaken by physicians, physician associates/assistants (PAs), and nurse practitioners (NPs). We analyzed prescribing data to understand better the growing presence of PAs and NPs in older adults. A trend in frequently prescribed medications was compared with other physicians. All prescriptions in Medicare Part D were grouped into broad categories of drugs and linked to each type of provider. The analysis spanned 9 years (2013-2021). The results revealed that all five providers similarly prescribed the top three main drug classes (antacids, antihypertens

Improving access to care through Advanced Practice Registered Nurses: Focus on perinatal patients with Opioid Use Disorder.

Perinatal substance use disorders, and all of the associated sequelae, continue to be a national health crisis that is further impacted by shifts in access to obstetrical care, particularly in rural areas. Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) specifically presents as a medical condition for which evidence-based guidelines support the use of medication treatment for opioid use disorder (MOUD) in the form of Methadone or Buprenorphine for both non-pregnant and pregnant women. However, the overall rates of access for those treatment modalities remain sparse. There is a public call to increase access to MOUD

Preventing, identifying, and managing medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw: a practical guide for nurses and other allied healthcare professionals.

BACKGROUND: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is an infrequent, but potentially serious, adverse event that can occur after exposure to bone-modifying agents (BMAs; e.g., bisphosphonates, denosumab, and antiangiogenic therapies). BMAs are typically used at higher doses to prevent skeletal-related events in cancer patients and at lower doses for osteoporosis/bone loss. MRONJ can cause significant pain, reduce quality of life, and can be difficult to treat, requiring a multiprofessional approach to care. METHODS: We reviewed the literature and guidelines to summarize a practic
