Evaluating the optic nerve head (ONH) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) is crucial for glaucoma. Though optical coherence tomography (OCT) offers advanced RNFL imaging, its cost limits accessibility. However, fundus images present a valuable alternative, with its availability and lower cost. This study presents a modality for glaucoma assessment using fundus images, i.e., employing depth estimation to generate RNFL thickness maps and delineate TSNIT graphs to create RNFL quadrants. Through this approach, the overall results consist of a prediction accuracy of red, yellow, green and white at

The paper presents a comparative study of the pulsatile attenuation amplitude (PAA) within the optic nerve head (ONH) at four different areas calculated from retinal video sequences and its relevance to the retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFL) changes in normal subjects and patients with different stages of glaucoma. The proposed methodology utilizes processing of retinal video sequences acquired by a novel video ophthalmoscope. The PAA parameter measures the amplitude of heartbeat-modulated light attenuation in retinal tissue. Correlation analysis between PAA and RNFL is performed in ve

PURPOSE: Glaucoma leads to pathological loss of axons in the retinal nerve fibre layer at the optic nerve head (ONH). This study aimed to develop a strategy for the estimation of the cross-sectional area of the axons in the ONH. Furthermore, improving the estimation of the thickness of the nerve fibre layer, as compared to a method previously published by us.
METHODS: In the 3D-OCT image of the ONH, the central limit of the pigment epithelium and the inner limit of the retina, respectively, were identified with deep learning algorithms. The minimal distance was estimated at equidistant angles

Glaucomatous optic neuropathy is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. The chronic disease is characterized by optic nerve degeneration and vision field loss. The reduction of intraocular pressure remains the only proven glaucoma treatment, but it does not prevent further neurodegeneration. There are three major classes of cells in the human optic nerve head (ONH): lamina cribrosa (LC) cells, glial cells, and scleral fibroblasts. These cells provide support for the LC which is essential to maintain healthy retinal ganglion cell (RGC) axons. All these cells demonstrate respo

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) are presumed to be associated with retinal thinning. However, evidence is lacking as to whether these retinal alterations reflect a disease-specific process or are rather a consequence of comorbid diseases or concomitant microvascular impairment.
METHODS: The study included 126 eyes of 65 patients with SSDs and 143 eyes of 72 healthy controls. We examined macula and optic disc measures by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCT-A). Additive mixed models were used to assess the impact of SSDs on retinal thickness and perfu

INTRODUCTION: Iridofundal colobomas, being developmental defects, are known to be accompanied by several ocular anomalies but an association with vitreous hemorrhage and an intraocular mass has not been reported earlier.
CASE: We report a case of an 18 years old subject having iridofundal coloboma in both eyes and an association of vitreous hemorrhage and an intraocular mass in the left eye. The diagnosis was confirmed with a detailed ocular examination, fundus fluorescein angiography, swept-source optical coherence tomography and ultrasonography. The laser barrage of coloboma caused a regres

Retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) with intraretinal layer segmentation is increasingly used not only in ophthalmology but also for neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS). Signal quality influences segmentation results, and high-quality OCT images are needed for accurate segmentation and quantification of subtle intraretinal layer changes. Among others, OCT image quality depends on the ability to focus, patient compliance and operator skills. Current criteria for OCT quality define acceptable image quality, but depend on manual rating by experienced graders and are time
