INTRODUCTION: Cardiac involvement in malignant lymphoma is one of the least investigated subjects in oncology. This article reports a case of cardiac involvement in Hodgkin's lymphoma which presented as heart failure.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of an 8-year-old Afghan girl with Hodgkin's lymphoma. The disease presented with systemic signs and symptoms, including abdominal distension, weakness, pallor, chills, fever, generalized edema, hepatosplenomegaly and generalized lymphadenopathy, as well as signs of heart failure. CASE REPORT: To report the case of a 26-year-old woman with a family history of dominant optic atrophy who requested DNA testing and counselling. Ophthalmologic examination showed her affected father had bilateral temporal papillary pallor. Direct genomic sequencing of the OPA1 gene revealed a novel heterozygous nonsense mutation (Arg879stop). Because no mutation in OPA1 was detected in the daughter, we could counsel her that the possibility was very low that she was a carrier or would pass the disease-causing gene to her children.

Pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) is a relatively rare disease although multiple factors are implied in the pathogenesis of its development. A slow progressive normocytic-normochromic anemia and reticulocytopenia, without leukopenia and thrombocytopenia in a patient who, except pallor, does not show abnormal findings on physical examination, should arise the suspicion that he has PRCA. The hypothenar hammer syndrome (HHS) is a rare form of secondary Raynaud's phenomenon in workers who frequently use the ulnar side of the palm as a hammer. Clinically the patient with HHS shows neurologic symptoms such as paresthesia, numbness and pain and signs of vascular insufficiency such as coldness, pallor, discoloration and blanching of the affected ulnar sided fingers. A three-year-old female with compound heterozygosity for Hb Knossos and IVS-I-1 mutation is presented. On physical examination she had no abnormality except for pallor. Persistent neuropathic pain is associated with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges that may be very difficult to resolve. This report describes eight patients with incapacitating, posttraumatic neuropathic pain characteristic of reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) who were treated by electromotive administration of guanethidine into affected areas of skin. Intra-abdominal hemorrhage in the newborn is uncommon, but it must be considered in the first 48 hours of life in the infant with pallor, anemia, abdominal distension, and shock. An 8-year-old 24.6 kg mixed breed dog underwent bronchoscopy for evaluation of a persistent progressive cough. Bronchoscopy documented a markedly thick and irregular, cobblestone appearance of the mucosa. An association between severe aplastic anemia and other autoimmune diseases is rare and has been described in adults for eosinophilic fasciitis, thymomas, systemic lupus erythematosus, and thyroid disorders.
