Strongyloidiasis is associated with Strongyloides stercoralis, an intestinal nematode with greater prevalence in tropical and subtropical regions. Hyperinfection syndrome with dissemination may occur in immunosuppressed individuals. However, invasion of peritoneal cavity with peritoneal effusion is rarely reported in the literature. We report a case of S. stercoralis hyperinfection in a young alcoholic patient with Diabetes mellitus, liver disease and ascites. Diagnostic paracentesis showed numerous filariform larvae of S. stercoralis against a background of eosinophils.

Complications associated with bladder-drained pancreatic transplant are not uncommon and include urinary tract infections and reflux pancreatitis. Bladder rupture with peritoneal leak is a rare complication after pancreatic transplantation and can present as an acute abdomen with rapidly deteriorating renal function. We describe the first case of a urine leak into the peritoneal cavity occurring after conversion from bladder to enteric drainage. A high index of suspicion is required to diagnose such a complication.

We investigated the conditions for and the quantity of abdominal contributions to caudal mediastinal node (CMN) efferent lymph in 15 anesthetized sheep with open thorax and lung lymph fistulas. Contractions of the diaphragm by phrenic nerve stimulation increased lymph flow by 29%. Eight horses ranging in age from 4 days to 9 years were treated for peritonitis. Escherichia coli was isolated in four cases and Nocardia sp in one case. In each case, a catheter placed in the peritoneal cavity allowed drainage of a large amount of purulent fluid. Retrograde peritoneal lavage was performed through a Foley catheter or medical tubing, using Ringer's lactate solution containing kanamycin, povidone iodine, or nitrofurazone. Enterobius (Oxyuris) vermicularis is the only nematode which infests man. It inhabits the large intestine and is of low pathogenicity. The ova are occasionally found in ectopic sites within the peritoneal cavity, usually as an asymptomatic granuloma. We describe the first patient to present with generalised peritonitis caused by rupture of a tubo-ovarian abscess containing the ova of Enterobius vermicularis.
