A study on the mechanism of Indium phosphide/zinc sulfide core/shell quantum dots influencing embryo incubation of rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus).

Quantum dots (QDs) inhibit fish hatching, but the mechanism is still unclear. In this study, the effect of Indium phosphide/zinc sulfide quantum dots (InP/ZnS QDs) on the embryo incubation of rare minnow was investigated. Five experimental concentration groups were set up according to the preliminary experimental results, which were 0, 50, 100, 200 and 400 nM. A direct exposure method was adopted to expose embryos to InP/ZnS QDs solution. The results showed that InP/ZnS QDs significantly inhibited the embryo hatching rate, delayed embryo emergence, affected the expression of genes associated w

nZVI-induced iron poisoning aggravated the toxicity of TCEP to earthworm in soil.

Tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) is a newly developed organophosphorus flame retardant that has been increasingly detected in soil as a contaminant. Nanoremediation is a potential solution for the control of TCEP, while the effectiveness and ecological risks are poorly understood. Here, we investigated the physicochemical interactions and joint toxicity of nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) (50-5000 mg/kg) and TCEP (50-5000 μg/kg) at environmental relevant concentrations to earthworms (Eisenia fetida) in soil. During a 28-d exposure, TCEP in soil was neither self-degraded nor removed by nZVI, a

Intentional fatal metallic phosphide poisoning in a dog--a case report.

BACKGROUND: Metallic phosphides are extremely toxic pesticides that are regulated in their usage. Information concerning the impact of metallic phosphides on human health is abundant. Data regarding the clinical pathology of phosphide poisoning in humans or domestic and wild animals is largely incomplete with only a few cases of metallic phosphide poisoning being reported every year, especially in humans. For the majority of cases reported in dogs the data are vague or incomplete. Here we report a complete and detailed description of pathological changes in a case of intentional metallic phosp

From coordinated oxophosphinidene to O,O,P-bound arylhypophosphite(2-) to build a singular Mo2Sn2O4P2 metallocycle.

P-bound derivatives of the hypophosphorous acids can be prepared from complexed phosphinidene oxides. The anion [MoCp(CO) 2{P(O)R*}] (-)[(H-DBU) (+) salt (R* = 2,4,6-C 6H 2 (t)Bu 3; Cp = eta (5)-C 5H 5) reacts with SnCl 2Ph 2 to give the neutral oxophosphinidene complex [MoCp{P(O)R*}(CO) 2(SnPh 2Cl)] in high yield. Basic hydrolysis of the latter complex occurs readily to yield the novel Mo-Sn metallocyclic derivatives [MoSn{mu- O, P-OP(OH)R*}CpPh 2(CO) 2] and [MoSn{mu- O, O, P-O 2PR*}CpPh(CO) 2] 2. These products display respectively hydrogenhypophosphite(1-) and hypophosphite(2-) anions coord

Laboratory tests of seven rodenticides for the control of Meriones shawi.

The response of Meriones shawi to seven rodenticides was investigated in laboratory feeding tests. The species proved to be much less susceptible to anticoagulants than most other species of rodent pests. Brodifacoum (at 0.005%), although giving complete mortality after only 8 days' continuous feeding, was more toxic than warfarin (0.025%), coumatetralyl (0.0375%), difenacoum (0.005%) and bromadiolone (0.005%). Calciferol (0.1%), though toxic, was significantly unpalatable. Zinc phosphide (5.0%) presented for 2 days in a choice test against unpoisoned food gave 80% mortality and appears to be

Brønsted Acid-Catalyzed Multicomponent Phosphonylation/Cyclization Strategy for the Synthesis of Phosphinylated 2H‑Isoindoles.

A Brønsted acid-catalyzed three-component modular phosphonylation/cyclization protocol has been established for the efficient synthesis of phosphinylated 2H-isoindoles, employing o-propargyl alcohol benzaldehydes, diarylphosphine oxides, and arylamines as starting materials. This metal-free cascade transformation is characterized by mild conditions, broad substrate compatibility, gram-scale synthesis, and one-pot construction of C-P, C-N, and CC bonds. Mechanistic studies revealed that this chemistry involves Kabachnik-Fields reaction, 5-exo-dig cyclization, and aromatization. Interestingly,

Visible-Light Photoredox-Catalyzed Synthesis of Phosphorylated γ-Sultines via Radical-Polar Crossover Cyclization.

A three-component cascade radical addition/SO2 incorporation/5-exo-tet cyclization of alkenes with secondary phosphine oxides and DABCO·(SO2)2 has been developed via visible-light-induced photoredox catalysis. Under mild and operationally simple conditions, a diverse range of phosphorylated γ-sultines were afforded in moderate to good yields. Furthermore, this reaction features high diastereoselectivity, a broad substrate scope, and good functional group tolerance. Further transformations of phosphorylated γ-sultine products demonstrate the potential applications of this approach. Preliminary

Dehydroxylative Cross-Electrophile Coupling of Aromatic Acids with Glycosyl Chlorides Enables Rapid C-Acyl Glycoside Synthesis.

We disclose a synergistic nickel/photoredox/phosphoranyl radical catalytic platform for the cross-electrophile coupling of aromatic acids with glycosyl chlorides, affording structurally diverse C-acyl glycosides in a stereoselective manner directly from unactivated carboxylic acids. A key step involves the generation of phosphoranyl radicals via a polar/single-electron transfer crossover between a phosphine radical cation and aromatic acid, triggering homolytic cleavage of the strong C-O bond to yield acyl radicals. The method tolerates diverse aromatic acids, furanoses, and pyranoses and read

Asymmetric Dearomatization of Phenols via Ligand-Enabled Cooperative Gold Catalysis.

By employing a chiral bifunctional phosphine ligand, a gold(I)-catalyzed efficient and highly enantioselective dearomatization of phenols is achieved via versatile metal-ligand cooperation. The reaction is proven to be remarkably general in scope, permitting substitutions at all four remaining benzene positions, accommodating electron-withdrawing groups including strongly deactivating nitro, and allowing carbon-based groups of varying steric bulk including tert-butyl at the alkyne terminus. Moreover, besides N-(o-hydroxyphenyl)alkynamides, the corresponding ynoates and ynones are all suitable

Role of Au-Sn bonding for stabilizing a gold nanocatalyst: a reinvestigation of purple of Cassius.

Purple of Cassius is a pigment based on a gold colloid that has been known for hundreds of years. It has had a profound influence on modern nanoscience. But the origin of the small size of the Au nanoparticles (NPs) and their superior stability remains ambiguous. The experiments and characterization studies discussed here confirmed that SnCl2 functioned not only as a reducing agent but also as an effective surface capping agent through bimetallic Au-Sn bonding. This finding expands the types of Au NP stabilizer from traditional organic examples (e.g., thiolate or phosphine) to metallic example

Tuning Mg(II) Selectivity: Comparative Analysis of the Photophysical Properties of Four Fluorescent Probes with an Alkynyl-Naphthalene Fluorophore.

Four alkynyl-1-naphthyl fluorophores have been synthesised with tri- or pentadentate ligating groups suited to the binding of magnesium. Their photophysical and binding properties for magnesium, calcium and zinc ions have been assessed using absorption, emission and excitation spectroscopy. Each compound has a pKa value between 6.2 and 5.1 and exhibits no significant pH response around pH 7.2. Enhanced selectivity for Mg2+ over Ca2+ was observed with a pentadentate phosphinate substituted system, compared to its carboxylate analogue, due to a 10-fold lowering of affinity for the Ca2+ ion. In e

Reactivity Studies on a Diazadiphosphapentalene.

The reactivity of diazadiphosphapentalene 1 towards various substrates was investigated. Reaction of 1 with ammonia-borane resulted in transfer hydrogenolysis concomitantly with the cleavage of a P-N bond. By treatment of 1 with 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO), oxidation took place at one of the phosphorus atoms of 1, and a P(V) /P(III) mixed-valence derivative was isolated. At the same time, it was demonstrated that only one of the phosphorus atoms in 1 behaves as an electron donor for electrophiles and Lewis acids. The former afforded an intramolecularly coordinated phosphine-ph

Calcium hexa-kis(dihydrogen-phosphito)-stannate(IV), Ca[Sn(H2PO2)6], with some remarks on the so-called Ge2(H2PO2)6 structure type.

The title compound, Ca[Sn(H2PO2)6], was formed after a few days when tin(II) fluoride was allowed to react with phosphinic acid at ambient conditions. The structure consists of chains of Ca(2+) and Sn(4+) cations in octa-hedral sites with -3 symmetry bridged by bidentate hypophosphite anions. The chains are hexa-gonally close packed along [001]. The discovery of the compound and the successful structure refinement provides strong evidence that an isostructural compound, originally described as the mixed-valence compound, Ge2[H2PO2]6 [Weakley (1983 ▶). J. Chem. Soc. Pak. 5, 279-281], must be re

Recent advances in transition metal-catalyzed enantioselective hydrogenation of unprotected enamines.

Transition metal-catalyzed enantioselective hydrogenation of enamines is undoubtedly a useful and environment-friendly method for the preparation of optically pure chiral amines and amine derivatives. Over the last few decades, the use of transition metal catalysts containing chiral phosphorus or phosphine-oxazoline ligands attracted much attention for the hydrogenation of unprotected enamines. A number of efficient chiral catalysts have been developed, and some of them have shown high potential for the application in the synthesis of optical chiral amines in both laboratory and industry. This

Preparation and characterization of bis(trifluoromethyl)phosphanide salts of outstanding stability.

The stable compounds [NEt(4)][P(CF(3))(2)] and [18-crown-6-K][P(CF(3))(2)] were synthesized in quantitative yields by treatment of HP(CF(3))(2) with ionic cyanides at low temperature. These novel salts were characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and vibrational spectroscopy. Excellent agreement of experimental and theoretical vibrational frequencies, calculated at the B3PW91 level of theory, clearly confirms the saltlike character of these compounds. Due to their ionic nature, these salts are excellent nucleophilic reagents for the transfer of P(CF(3))(2) groups, s

Electrochemical Investigation of Iron-Catalyzed Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization.

Use of iron-based catalysts in atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is very interesting because of the abundance of the metal and its … he role played by added ligands. It is shown that amine ligands form stable iron complexes, whereas phosphines act as reducing agents. eATRP of MMA catalyzed by FeCl3 was investigated in different conditions. In particular, the effects of temperature, catalyst concentration, catalyst-to-initiator ratio, halide ion excess and added ligands were investigated. …

Intermolecular water attack to alkenylgold carbenes derived from 3-propargylindoles.

An intermolecular hydroxylation of α,β-unsaturated gold carbene intermediates, generated from readily accessible 3-propargylindoles through a tandem 1,2-indole migration-hydroxylation sequence using water as an external nucleophile, has been developed. Under mild reaction conditions and employing gold(I) catalysts bearing bulky and electron-rich phosphine ligands, a significant range of hydroxy-functionalized indole derivatives was synthesized in high yields. Mechanistic studies support the selective addition of water to the β-position of the electrophilic α,β-unsaturated gold carbene intermed
