Association Between Nutritional Biomarkers and Low Muscle Mass, Obesity, and Low Muscle Mass with Obesity Across Physical Activity Levels Among U.S. Adults: Finding from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2015-2018.

BACKGROUND: Nutritional biomarkers are linked to body composition changes, but limited evidence has studied how nutritional biomarkers relate to low muscle mass, excess adiposity, and both coexisting conditions across different physical activity levels. This study aims to investigate associations between low muscle mass, obesity, and low muscle mass with obesity and nutritional biomarkers across physical activity levels among U.S. adults across physical activity levels. METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyzed data from adults aged 20-59 years from the 2015-2018 cycles of the National Hea

"Our lives matter": a qualitative examination of the impact of COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders on resource security and mental and physical health of Black and Latino sexual minority men in California and New York.

The COVID-19 and HIV pandemics have disproportionately affected Black and Latino sexual minority men (BLSMM) in the United States, with them having the highest burden of disease. Despite this disparity, few studies have examined the intersection of COVID-19 mitigation measures, access to healthcare, and other social determinants during the COVID-19 pandemic among BLSMM. To fill this gap in the literature, the purpose of this study is to explore the impact of the pandemic on mental and physical health, access to healthcare, and resource security among BLSMM. Using an interpretive phenomenologic

Harmful impact of blood lead on the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease among middle-aged and older adults and the modifying role of physical activity: Evidence from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) study.

INTRODUCTION: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a major public health challenge. This study aims to explore the combined effects of blood lead levels (BLL) and physical activity (PA) on AD prevalence among middle-aged and older adults. METHODS: A total of 13,426 middle-aged and older adults (57.8% over 60 years old; 49.7% males) were included. Firth's penalized logistic regression models were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: High blood lead level (High-BLL) was associated with an 86.7% increase in AD prevalence. For PA levels, engaging in sufficiently active PA was associated with a 72% red

The newly proposed plasma-glycosylated hemoglobin A1c/High-Density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio serves as a simple and practical indicator for screening metabolic associated fatty liver disease: an observational study based on a physical examination population.

BACKGROUND: Glycotoxicity and lipotoxicity are key pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the development of metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). The primary objective of this study is to investigate the association between the newly proposed Plasma-Glycosylated Hemoglobin A1c/High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Ratio (HbA1c/HDL-C ratio) and the risk of MAFLD. METHODS: A study population of 14,251 individuals undergoing health examinations was included. The association between the HbA1c/HDL-C ratio and MAFLD was analyzed using multivariable logistic regression and restricted c

Australian treatment outcome study: protocol for the 18-20-year follow-up of a prospective longitudinal cohort examining the natural history of heroin dependence and associated mortality, psychiatric and physical health, and health service use.

INTRODUCTION: Opioid dependence is a global health priority, currently making the biggest contribution to drug-related deaths. The chronic, long-term persistence of heroin dependence over the life course requires investigation in prospective longitudinal studies, to better understand patterns and predictors of remission and relapse, as well as the impact of changes in substance use on a range of physical and mental health outcomes. Such knowledge is critical in order to identify modifiable risk factors that can be targeted for intervention. Crucial unanswered questions include the following: W

Fitness to drive a motor vehicle.

Professional drivers should be required to pass a standard medical test before being issued with a driving licence, this to be repeated at regular intervals thereafter. The requisite standards of fitness are presented as a guide to medical practitioners in South Africa.

Evaluation of the dizzy patient.

This discussion has focused primarily on the history and physical examination of the patient with dizziness which, in fact, are the two most important elements in the evaluation process. To perform the examination expeditiously and completely, a broad differential diagnosis of dizziness must be kept in mind. The clinician should also keep in mind two basic objectives: first, to identify serious pathology (e.g., central nervous system lesion, brainstem ischemia, cardiac arrhythmia); and second, to recognize diseases that can be specifically treated, such as an endocrine abnormality, middle ear …

Investigating the Use of Changes in Facial Features as Indicators of Physical Workload.

OCCUPATIONAL APPLICATIONSPhysical workload may lead to negative outcomes, including musculoskeletal disorders. In this study, we found that there were observable changes in facial features over the length of a low intensity, prolonged assembly task, and that these changes were correlated to other measures of physical workload. This method can be implemented by practitioners to evaluate physical workload.

[Are physicians' examinations required for driving licences correct?].

73 consecutive medical certificates for granting driving licenses were examined. The certificates were given on standard forms with yes/no tick boxes. They were used by the Norwegian Board of Health in handling appeals against rejected applications for exemption from the health requirements for driving licenses. Two of the 73 certificates contained incorrect statements about the applicants' medical conditions. A further two were incomplete with regard to medical facts known to the issuing physician, whereas the remaining 69 certificates gave correct information about the health of the applican

Diagnosis of asthma: clinical assessment.

BACKGROUND: Asthma is a common condition that presents with varied symptomatology and exam findings. The diagnosis of asthma is made through a combination of clinical assessment and diagnostic testing. METHODS: A literature review was conducted through PubMed, focusing on systematic reviews and practice parameters. The highest-quality studies and those including the highest number of patients were included. References were reviewed for additional relevant articles. RESULTS: Patients with asthma present with the symptoms of cough, dyspnea, and wheezing. The physical exam can demonstrate hyper
