The clinical case of a 53-year-old woman diagnosed with a right Bochdalek hernia complicated by intestinal obstruction is presented. This type of diaphragmatic hernia is rare, especially those located on the right side, but is the most common non-hiatal hernia. Her diagnosis focused on the computed tomography of the chest and abdomen and the repair was performed using a laparoscopic approach. A primary closure was carried out associated with the placement of polypropylene mesh. Her evolution was favorable, with no complications associated with the procedure.

The T-line hernia mesh is a synthetic, polypropylene mesh with mesh suture extensions designed to prevent anchor point failure by evenly distributing tension across the soft tissue. Previous studies have demonstrated the success of onlay ventral hernia repair with T-line hernia mesh, but retrorectus applications of the mesh have not yet been characterized. One of the alternatives for the repair of large incisional hernias is the use of a prosthetic material. The present retrospective study relates the experience acquired for treatment of large incisional hernias (hernial orifice > 10 cm) with ePTFE prostheses. Thirty-eight massive incisional hernias were repaired using ePTFE 1 mm thick Soft Tissue Patches. Spigelian hernia is a rare lateral ventral abdominal hernia. These clinically elusive hernias are treacherous and have a real risk of strangulation. We present a patient with a strangulation of the small bowel and appendix in a right spigelian hernia, which was accurately demonstrated by spiral computerised tomography preoperatively and successfully treated with primary suturing reinforced with polypropylene mesh. With a high index of suspicion and the use of modern radiological technique, these "bewildering" hernias can be diagnosed and repaired relatively safely.

Experiences in management of paralytic foot deformities in 30 children and adolescents with myelomeningoceles are reported. Suitable reconstruction of foot form can be achieved regularly with the help of early manipulation, walking plasters and orthopaedic surgery. However, the impairment of sensation remains unchanged. The polypropylene solid ankle orthosis has proved particularly useful for maintaining good weight-bearing abilities of the foot combined with partial load transfer to sensitive skin regions below the knee joint.

In this study, a procedure for iridodialysis repair using an elegant, cost-effective, and quick technique using 6-0 polypropylene sutures, low-temperature electrocautery, and a 27-gauge needle is presented. Previously, all methods required performing a conjunctival peritomy to expose bare sclera and then typically intricate movements and knot tying. The method described in this study combined the sewing machine technique and a modified Yamane scleral-fixation technique to treat iridodialysis that required no knots, peritomies, or specialized equipment.

Rupture of the tibialis anterior tendon is an unusual injury. Most ruptures occur in elderly men with a history of minor trauma. The sudden occurrence of a "foot drop" is often the presenting symptom. The diagnosis is frequently delayed. The acute rupture is best treated by direct repair. Treatment of the chronic rupture is tailored to the patient. In relatively inactive patients, either a polypropylene ankle-foot orthosis or no treatment at all is indicated. In the more active patient, a reconstruction using extensor hallucis longus helps restore dorsiflexion function.

The degradation of plastic waste can be facilitated by a process in which polymers react with nitrogen oxides and dioxygen under relatively mild conditions. Polystyrene generates a mixture of benzoic and nitrobenzoic acids. Both high- and low-density polyethylene produce mixtures of short-chain α,ω-diacids (including adipic acid) in good yields. A mixture of acids is also formed from nylon-6,6. Other polymers that are degraded to oligomeric materials include polypropylene, polymethyl methacrylate, and polyacrylic acid.

The SB Charité intervertebral disc prostheses consist of two metal end-plates and an interposed polyethylene slide core. These were subjected to static and dynamic testing in a servohydraulic test rig. When embedded in polypropylene, the prostheses were found to function adequately under a high static load, and under a lighter dynamic load for a long time. When tested in a cadaveric vertebral segment, a large end-plate surface area proved to be of critical importance in preventing collapse of the prosthesis into the vertebral body.
