Validity and psychometric characteristics of the self-administered comorbidity questionnaire in patients with psoriatic arthritis.

The study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the self-comorbidity questionnaire (SCQ) into Turkish and investigate the validity and reliability of SCQ and its modified version (mSCQ) in psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Psoriatic arthritis quality of life (PsAQoL) and short form 36 (SF-36) were used to assess the quality of life. The physical disability was evaluated with the health assessment questionnaire (HAQ). The reliability of the SCQ scale was assessed by test-retest reliability. For construct validity, the correlations of SCQ with the HAQ, SF-36, PsAQoL, age, body mass index (BMI),

Dedicated Olfaction and Taste Items do not Improve Psychometric Performance of the SNOT-22.

OBJECTIVE: Previous work has shown the chemosensory dysfunction item of the 22-item Sinonasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22) that assesses problems with "taste/smell" has poor psychometric performance compared with other items on the SNOT-22, which we have hypothesized is due to the simultaneous assessment of two different senses. Our aim was to determine whether distinct smell and taste items in the SNOT-22 would improve psychometric performance. METHODS: One hundred and eighty-one CRS patients were recruited and completed the SNOT-22. Additional items querying problems with the senses of "smell" an

Psychometric Evaluation and Predictive Validity of an Adapted Adherence Self-Efficacy Scale for PrEP.

Adherence to and sustainment of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) are critical to its effectiveness. Adherence self-efficacy, i.e., confidence in one's ability to adhere to a particular medication, is a key psychological determinant of health behavior that strongly predicts HIV treatment adherence but has been understudied in PrEP research. This paper describes the psychometric evaluation and validation of the PrEP Adherence Self-Efficacy Scale (PrEP-ASES), adapted from the previously validated HIV Treatment Adherence Self-Efficacy Scale (HIV-ASES). Data are drawn from two studies conducted

Psychometric Properties of the Clinical Dementia Rating Scale Sum of Boxes in Parkinson's Disease.

BACKGROUND: A composite measure that assesses both cognitive and functional abilities in Parkinson's disease (PD) would be useful for diagnosing mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and PD dementia (PDD) and as an outcome measure in randomized controlled trials. The Clinical Dementia Rating Scale Sum of Boxes (CDR-SOB) was designed to assess both cognition and basic-instrumental activities of daily living in Alzheimer's disease but has not yet been validated in PD. OBJECTIVE: To validate the CDR-SOB as a composite cognitive-functional measure for PD patients, as well as to assess its sensitivity t

Psychometric properties of the STAI-Y scales and normative data in an Italian elderly population.

BACKGROUND: Early detection of anxiety symptoms in older people is capital as it may be linked to increased physical/functional disabilities, onset and progression of neurodegenerative disorders, and poor cognitive functioning. Nonetheless, there is a paucity of psychometrically validated anxiety measures in the elderly. AIMS: This study aimed at assessing the psychometric properties of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-Form Y (STAI-Y) and providing the first normative data for the Italian elderly population. METHODS: The sample included 361 individuals aged 65-94. All subjects underwent the

Psychometric Properties of the Chinese Version of the Premonitory Urge for Tics Scale: A Preliminary Report.

Premonitory urges (PUs) are sensory phenomena that immediately precede tics. The Premonitory Urge for Tics Scale (PUTS) is widely used to assess the severity of PUs, but the psychometric properties of PUTS and clinical features of PU in Chinese patients with tic disorders are still unclear. In this study, we examined the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the PUTS in a large sample (including 367 Chinese pediatric patients with tic disorders). We found no difference in PU in different age groups. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) of PUTS showed the emergence of four primary

Tele-neuropsychological assessment tools in Italy: a systematic review on psychometric properties and usability.

BACKGROUND: The current COVID-19 pandemic has abruptly catalysed a shift towards remote assessment in neuropsychological practice (tele-neuropsychology, t-NPs). Although the validity of t-NPs diagnostics is gaining recognition worldwide, little is known about its implementation in Italy. The present review by the Italian working group on tele-neuropsychology (TELA) aims at describing the availability, psychometric properties, and feasibility of t-NPs tools currently available in Italy. METHODS: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followe

A psychometric and validity study of callous-unemotional traits in 2.5 year old children.

Callous-unemotional (CU) traits are associated with severe and stable antisocial behaviour in childhood and adolescence. In order to understand the earliest origins of CU traits we need first to know whether measurement is reliable and valid in young children. This study evaluated the psychometric properties and validity of a CU traits measure generated from existing child problem behaviour scales at age 2.5 years. The participants were members of an epidemiological longitudinal study starting in pregnancy. Items from the Antisocial Process Screening Device and other problem behaviour scales w

Functions of nonsuicidal self-injury in a Hungarian community adolescent sample: a psychometric investigation.

BACKGROUND: The Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury (ISAS) is a psychometrically valid tool to evaluate the motives of nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI), but there are a few studies that test gender differences in the factor structure of the measurement. However, several differences across gender were identified in NSSI (e.g., in prevalence, methods, functions). Therefore, our study focused on further analyses of the dimensionality of the ISAS functions. METHODS: Among Hungarian adolescents with a history of NSSI (N = 418; 70.6% girls; mean age was 16.86, SD = 1.45), confirmatory factor an

Psychometric Evaluation of Social Cognition and Behavior Measures in Children and Adolescents with Down Syndrome.

Individuals with Down syndrome (DS) are often described as socially engaged; however, challenges with social cognition, expressive language, and social interaction are also common in DS and are prospective outcomes of interest for clinical trials. The current study evaluates the psychometric properties of standardized measurements of social cognition and social behavior for potential use as outcome measures for children and adolescents with DS. Seventy-three youth ages 6 to 17 years old (M = 12.67, SD = 3.16) with DS were assessed on social cognition subtests of a neuropsychological assessment

Psychometric properties testing of a Cantonese version of the Life-Space Assessment in people with stroke.

The Life-Space Assessment (LSA) advances measurements of mobility by determining the extent of the spatial area in which a person moves in real life. Yet there is no Cantonese version of the LSA. This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the LSA into Cantonese (C-LSA) and examine its psychometric properties in people with stroke. Psychometric properties were examined in 112 people with stroke. The life-space of stroke survivors was compared with that of healthy older people with and without depressive symptoms. The content validity of the C-LSA was good. The Cronbach's α was 0.73. The

Psychometric Properties of Grief Traits and State Scale for Nurses to Measure Levels of Grief.

Frequent exposure to patient deaths prompts nurses to experience grief. Unresolved grief leads to harmful consequences of nurses' mental health and quality of nursing care. A cross-sectional study using an online survey was conducted to determine the psychometric properties of the Grief traits and State Scale for Nurses. Exploratory factor analysis revealed two factors measuring the level of nurses' grief traits (Cronbach's alpha: 0.84) and two factors in grief state (Cronbach's alpha: 0.86). Nurses' feelings of unable to provide good care were associated with a higher risk of grief (odds rati

Psychometric properties of the Korean version of the Pittsburgh Fatigability Scale in breast cancer survivors.

BACKGROUND: Fatigability has recently emerged in oncology as a concept that anchors patients' perceptions of fatigue to defined activities of specified duration and intensity. This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Korean version of the Pittsburgh Fatigability Scale (K-PFS) for women with breast cancer. METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 196 women with breast cancer recruited from a tertiary hospital in Seoul, Korea. Reliability was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha, and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to examine the factor structure of the K-PFS. F

Design and psychometric testing of a new patient-reported outcome measure for ankle treatment.

BACKGROUND: Several outcome scores are used to assess the outcome of ankle surgery, but many are not validated and there is currently no 'gold-standard'. Consequently, there is demand to develop a new 'gold-standard' score to assess ankle surgery. The study aim was to review existing scores to develop and validate a new patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) to assess the outcome of operative ankle surgery. METHODS: The questionnaire items covered three areas: pain, symptoms and activity. The scale was reviewed by a patient group, resulting in the Oswestry Ankle score (Os-Ankle). The Os-Ankl

Multivariate Lesion-Behavior Mapping of General Cognitive Ability and Its Psychometric Constituents.

General cognitive ability, or general intelligence (g), is central to cognitive science, yet the processes that constitute it remain unknown, in good part because most prior work has relied on correlational methods. Large-scale behavioral and neuroanatomical data from neurologic patients with focal brain lesions can be leveraged to advance our understanding of the key mechanisms of g, as this approach allows inference on the independence of cognitive processes along with elucidation of their respective neuroanatomical substrates. We analyzed behavioral and neuroanatomical data from 402 humans
