Long-Term Outcomes in Survivors of Childhood Cancer: A 30-Year Experience From India.

PURPOSE: Despite an increasing number of survivors of childhood cancer (CCS) in low- and middle-income countries, survivorship care is in its nascent stages. We describe the spectrum of late effects seen, challenges faced, and lessons learnt over three decades of a late effects program in India. METHODS: We describe the demographics and profile of late effects of all CCS survivors enrolled in our After Completion of Treatment Clinic from February 5, 1991 (inception) to February 4, 2021. We analyzed the trends by the decade of diagnosis. RESULTS: There were 3,067 CCS survivors, the median age

Childhood trauma and health outcomes in HIV-infected patients: an exploration of causal pathways.

OBJECTIVE: Traumatic life histories are highly prevalent in people living with HIV/AIDS and predict sexual risk behaviors, medication adherence, and all-cause mortality. Yet the causal pathways explaining these relationships remain poorly understood. We sought to quantify the association of trauma with negative behavioral and health outcomes and to assess whether those associations were explained by mediation through psychosocial characteristics. METHODS: In 611 outpatient people living with HIV/AIDS, we tested whether trauma's influence on later health and behaviors was mediated by coping st

Recommendations of the ECNP Digital Network for the evaluation of mental health care apps: A Delphi consensus.

The global rise in mental health problems has outpaced the availability of trained professionals, prompting interest in digital solutions such as mobile mental health applications (apps). These apps offer potential benefits including cost-effectiveness, accessibility, and personalized care. Here we provide expert consensus recommendations for evaluating mental health apps, developed by a taskforce of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) Digital Network using a Delphi process. The consensus group agreed that minimum evaluation criteria should include measures of efficacy, usab

Microneedle-mediated intelligent combination delivery for hair regeneration: A comprehensive review of technologies, mechanistic evidence, and translational prospects.

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a prevalent hair-loss disorder with substantial psychosocial burden, while current treatments such as topical minoxidil and oral finasteride remain limited by insufficient follicular delivery, long-term adherence requirements, local irritation, systemic adverse effects, and recurrence after discontinuation. Microneedle (MN) technology offers a minimally invasive local intervention strategy by bypassing the stratum corneum, enhancing follicular exposure, reducing unnecessary systemic distribution, and providing mechanical stimulation to the scalp microenvironment.

The Impact of Child Abuse on Relationships between Resource Loss and Posttraumatic Stress: A Cross-Lagged Panel Analysis.

Childhood abuse is a serious and prevalent public health concern, both in the United States and around the world. The association between child abuse and adverse outcomes in adulthood is well-established, with those experiencing abuse more likely to be diagnosed with mental health disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), into adulthood. One way to conceptualize the relationship between trauma and adverse mental health outcomes in adulthood is through resource loss. Previous research indicates that individuals who have experienced childhood abuse may not adequately develop res

Coordination of healthcare for transsexual persons: a multidisciplinary approach.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To describe the experience in Spain concerning the public healthcare for transsexual persons using a multidisciplinary approach and to review the relevant literature. Treatment includes social and psychological support, cross-hormone treatment, and sex reassignment surgeries. Although the recommendations of The World Professional Association for Transgender Health are used as guidelines, the application of these standards of care varies considerably, probably because of specific clinical and country factors. RECENT FINDINGS: The sex reassignment process is complex and requi

Toward a unified theory of serotonin dysregulation in eating and related disorders.

Patients with eating disorders (EDs) exhibit several clinical features and biologic findings indicative of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) dysregulation. These include feeding disturbances, depression and suicide, impulsivity and violence, anxiety and harm avoidance, obsessive-compulsive features, seasonal variation of symptoms, as well as disturbances in neuroendocrine and vascular tissues, as well as other neurochemical systems linked to 5-HT, such as temperature. This review attempts to integrate available results from controlled studies in humans, with particular focus on cerebrospin

"A right place for everybody": Supporting aging in the right place for older people experiencing homelessness.

While policies and practices that promote aging in place have risen in prominence over the last two decades, marginalised older adults have largely been overlooked. 'Aging in the right place' is a concept that recognises the importance of adequate and appropriate age-related health and psychosocial supports in shelter/housing settings and their impact on the ability of older people to age optimally. To understand the unique shelter/housing challenges and solutions that affect aging in the right place for older people experiencing homelessness (OPEH), we conducted three World Café workshops in

A supportive nursing care clinic: conceptions of patients with head and neck cancer.

Patients with head and neck cancer have complex long-lasting physical and psychosocial needs due to illness and treatment, and studies have shown deficiencies concerning support in these respects. The purpose of this study was to describe how head and neck cancer patients with eating problems conceived the significance of a supportive nursing care clinic before, during and after completion of radiotherapy. Thematic interviews were carried out in an open dialogue with 12 patients treated with radiotherapy for head and neck cancer. The phenomenologischer method was used in the analyses. The find

'Being empathetic to my patients and ourselves': a qualitative process evaluation of READ-Y psychological first aid training for healthcare workers working in routine care.

Introduction: Healthcare workers (HCWs) are routinely exposed to distressing and potentially traumatic events during frontline care, yet receive limited structure training to manage such exposure. Psychological first aid (PFA) training has been widely disseminated among emergency responders and is increasingly being adapted for HCWs; however, its acceptability, implementation, and use in routine care remain underexplored. This study aimed to explore how an adapted PFA training programme was perceived, implemented, and used by HCWs in routine care, and to identify the mechanisms and contextual

How to cope with Long COVID - A qualitative interview study on stressors and coping strategies of people affected by long-term consequences of COVID-19.

Long COVID, a multi-system-disease characterized by persistent somatic and mental symptoms following a SARS-CoV-2 infection, can severely impair health and quality of life of those affected. In the absence of adequate therapeutic approaches and a fragmented care landscape, our focus is on identifying individual stressors, the resulting needs and strategies people use to cope with the ongoing burden of the disease and its long-term stressors. This qualitative interview study is part of a pilot multicenter study addressing psychosocial needs in patients with Long COVID. The surveyed sample (n =

Unplanned early hospital readmission among critical care survivors: a mixed methods study of patients and carers.

BACKGROUND: Many intensive care (ICU) survivors experience early unplanned hospital readmission, but the reasons and potential prevention strategies are poorly understood. We aimed to understand contributors to readmissions from the patient/carer perspective. METHODS: This is a mixed methods study with qualitative data taking precedence. Fifty-eight ICU survivors and carers who experienced early unplanned rehospitalisation were interviewed. Thematic analysis was used to identify factors contributing to readmissions, and supplemented with questionnaire data measuring patient comorbidity and ca

Utilizing Mobile Health Technology to Enhance Brace Compliance: Feasibility and Effectiveness of an App-Based Monitoring System for Adolescents with Idiopathic Scoliosis.

Background/Objectives: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) often requires prolonged brace use to prevent curve progression. However, adherence is challenging due to discomfort, mobility restrictions, and psychosocial stressors. This study evaluated the feasibility and clinical utility of a mobile health (mHealth) system for real-time tracking of brace adherence and treatment-related experiences in adolescents with AIS. Methods: Thirty adolescents with AIS (mean age = 12.9, SD = 1.8) undergoing brace treatment at a tertiary care center used a custom app for 90 days. The app collected daily se

Psychosocial interventions for men with prostate cancer: a Cochrane systematic review.

To evaluate the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions for men with prostate cancer in improving quality of life (QoL), self-efficacy and knowledge and in reducing distress, uncertainty and depression. We searched for trials using a range of electronic databases including the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE, EMBASE and PsycINFO to October 2013, together with hand searching of journals and reference lists. Randomised controlled trials were eligible if they included psychosocial interventions that explicitly used one or a combination of the following approa

The effects of observed sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) on hospital staff.

We have described an observed case of SIDS in a hospital setting. The victim was "well baby" hospitalized for psychosocial reasons. Death occurred on the fifth hospital day, during sleep and two hours after feeding. The death was silent and was preceded by cyanosis and respiratory arrest. Hospital staff who attended the baby during his admission experienced the same traumatic reactions as families of SIDS victims, ie, shock, disbelief, anger, guilt, fear, blaming, sadness, and behavioral manifestations. Information on SIDS, communication about feelings and continued group support were of utmos

[Psychosocial factors associated to depressive episodes with hospitalization in women: a case-control study].

UNLABELLED: The part played by psychosocial factors has frequently been studied in mental disorders whether as protective factors or as vulnerability factors, using variously adequate methods. A large body of research has shown that poor social support or poor self-esteem or presence of stressful life events could play a large part in triggering disorders. The importance of socioeconomic factors in mental illness is so great that such factors (unemployment, insecurity in employment, homelessness, lower social classes, low income) skew the studies in which they are not considered. In this study

Influence of marital status on clinical outcomes in peripheral T-cell lymphoma: a population-based analysis.

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is an aggressive malignancy with poor prognosis that requires intensive systemic therapy, highlighting the potential impact of psychosocial factors on disease management and clinical outcomes. In this population-based study using SEER data from 2013 to 2022, we identified 5,919 patients newly diagnosed with PTCL. Propensity score matching (PSM) was applied to control for baseline differences, and survival outcomes were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazards models. Unmarried patients were more likely to be female, younger, and of no

Job Dissatisfaction Among Elderly Care Nurses Working in Hospital Inpatient Settings: A Qualitative Study.

INTRODUCTION: A knowledge gap exists regarding how physical, psychosocial, and organizational stressors interact dynamically over time to drive nurse dissatisfaction. This qualitative study explores the lived experiences of hospital inpatient elderly care nurses navigating their institutional environment. The aim was to uncover the specific operational dynamics of job dissatisfaction and provide an empirical model of these cyclic, self-reinforcing patterns. METHODS: A qualitative research design was applied for the study. The purposive sample consisted of 21 nurses; the sample size was determ
