Two-step keratoplasty for deep vascularized corneal opacity with severe peripheral thinning following Acanthamoeba keratitis.

PURPOSE: In cases of corneal opacity with vascularization and peripheral thinning, traditional keratoplasty techniques have several risks and drawbacks. We report the results of a two-step surgical strategy consisting in performing a large diameter tectonic lamellar keratoplasty (TLK) to restore appropriate corneal thickness and an avascular recipient bed, followed by central optical PK within the lamellar graft at a later date. METHODS: This single-institution study analyzes the results of 7 eyes of 7 patients who received PK after large diameter TLK. All patients were affected by deep post-

[Correction of suboptimal outcomes after cataract surgery using secondarily implanted AddOn intraocular lenses].

Introduction: Today, the expectation for cataract surgery is to achieve the best possible refractive outcome, but ultimately in many cases the visual outcome is suboptimal, which may require further surgical correction. Often the most optimal option for surgical correction is the implantation of a secondary supplementary lens in the ciliary sulcus. Aim: The aim of our study was to assess the long-term visual outcome after secondary implantation of the 1stQ AddOn® (Medicontur Medical Engeneering Ltd.) artificial lens in the sulcus, focusing on its stability and biocompatibility. Method: We anal

Quantitative assessment of corneal elasticity distribution after FS-LASIK using optical coherence elastography.

Quantifying corneal elasticity after femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) procedure plays an important role in improving surgical safety and quality, since some latent complications may occur ascribing to changes in postoperative corneal biomechanics. Nevertheless, it is suggested that current research has been severely constrained due to the lack of an accurate quantification method to obtain postoperative corneal elasticity distribution. In this paper, an acoustic radiation force optical coherence elastography system combined with the improved phase velocity algorithm

Analysis of corneal remodeling post-myopic photorefractive keratectomy with the WaveLight® EX500 excimer laser.

Refractive error is becoming a significant public health issue. Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) is a corneal surface surgical technique that removes the corneal epithelium before stromal photoablation by ultraviolet radiation from the Excimer laser. We designed a retrospective study to characterize corneal remodeling after myopic Photorefractive Keratectomy and assess the accuracy of laser-predicted ablation depth (AD). This study took place in 15-20 National Ophthalmology Hospital, Paris, France. 150 eyes with preoperative manifest spherical equivalent between - 10.00D and - 0.25D and cylin

[Scheimpflug and topography systems in ophthalmologic diagnostics].

Modern Ophthalmology is currently experiencing a boom in anterior segment analysis tools that can increasingly gather information with one short measurement. These systems are based e.g. on so-called Scheimpflug (Pentacam, Galilei), slitlamp, and Placido technologies (Orbscan IIz) and other measurement systems. They help in analyzing the cornea in detail, including calculation of corneal wavefront. In addition, morphological and anatomical parameters such as anterior chamber depth, pachymetry, chamber angle, and lens densitometry can be analyzed. That makes these new technologies of interest f

Scleral flaps, pars plana vitrectomy and gore-tex sutured posterior chamber intraocular lens placement: a case series and review of literature.

INTRODUCTION: Cataract surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures performed worldwide. Intraocular lens (IOL) implants are placed routinely in the capsular bag after successful cataract extraction. However, in the absence of adequate capsular support, IOL may be placed in the anterior chamber, fixated to the iris or fixated to the sclera. The purpose of this study is to report the clinical outcomes and safety profile of a trans-scleral sutured intraocular lens (IOL) technique using scleral flaps, vitrectomy, and Gore-Tex suture to place posterior chamber IOL. METHODS: Retrospective
