Preanalytical considerations in testing thyroid function.

Remarkable technical advances have permitted analytical measurement of thyrotropin (TSH) and estimates of free thyroxine (FT4) with precision, accuracy, and favorable economics. Combined with an increased appreciation of the key insights into the pituitary-thyroid relation, preanalytical considerations infrequently introduce confounding variables. In reviewing thyroid data, preanalytical considerations include physiological and specimen-based issues. Central to the improvement in thyroid assessment is the recognition that physiological individuals maintain their FT4 within narrow limits. When

Reproducibility of BOLD-based functional MRI obtained at 4 T.

The reproducibility of activation patterns in the whole brain obtained by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) experiments at 4 Tesla was studied with a simple finger-opposition task. Six subjects performed three runs in one session, and each run was analyzed separately with the t-test as a univariate method and Fisher's linear discriminant analysis as a multivariate method. Detrending with a first- and third-order polynomial as well as logarithmic transformation as preprocessing steps for the t-test were tested for their impact on reproducibility. Reproducibility across the whole brai

Appraisal of within- and between-laboratory reproducibility of non-radioisotopic local lymph node assay using flow cytometry, LLNA:BrdU-FCM: comparison of OECD TG429 performance standard and statistical evaluation.

Mouse local lymph node assay (LLNA, OECD TG429) is an alternative test replacing conventional guinea pig tests (OECD TG406) for the skin sensitization test but the use of a radioisotopic agent, (3)H-thymidine, deters its active dissemination. New non-radioisotopic LLNA, LLNA:BrdU-FCM employs a non-radioisotopic analog, 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU) and flow cytometry. For an analogous method, OECD TG429 performance standard (PS) advises that two reference compounds be tested repeatedly and ECt(threshold) values obtained must fall within acceptable ranges to prove within- and between-laborator

Transient evoked otoacoustic emissions in 6-year-old school children: a normative study.

Great potential has recently been demonstrated for the application of transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) in screening the hearing of school-aged children. The present study aimed to describe the range of TEOAE values obtained from a large cohort of 6-year-old children in school settings. Results indicated significant sex and ear asymmetry effects on signal-to-noise ratio, response, whole wave reproducibility, band reproducibility and noise levels. A prior history of ear infections was also shown to influence response level, whole wave reproducibility and band reproducibility. The

Reproducibility of motor unit number index and multiple point stimulation motor unit number estimation in controls.

INTRODUCTION: Reproducibility of the multiple point stimulation motor unit number estimation (MPS-MUNE) technique was compared with the recently developed motor unit number index (MUNIX) technique. METHODS: MPS-MUNE and MUNIX were performed on 15 healthy subjects at 3 different time-points by the same examiner. Reproducibility was analyzed using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and coefficient of variation (CV). RESULTS: ICC values for MUNIX and MPS-MUNE were excellent across 3 tests (0.80 and 0.77, respectively), although CV values were significantly lower for MUNIX than MPS-MUNE (P

Impact of number of observers on reproducibility of gynaecological cancer MRI radiomics to interobserver contour variation.

BACKGROUND: Current studies assessing the reproducibility of radiomic features from gynaecological magnetic resonance images (MRIs) with interobserver contour variation (IOV) have been limited to ≤3 observers. This number of observers is insufficient to demonstrate the full range of IOV. PURPOSE: To assess the impact of observer numbers when investigating the reproducibility of gynaecological T2W-MRI radiomic features with IOV. METHODS: 20 gynaecological cancer T2W-MRIs had the gross tumor volume (GTV), bladder, rectum, uterus, parametrium, and vagina delineated by 6 observers to create a 2-

The Effect of Ultrasound Image Pre-Processing on Radiomics Feature Quality: A Study on Shoulder Ultrasound.

Radiomics, the extraction of quantitative features from medical images, has shown great promise in enhancing diagnostic and prognostic models, particularly in CT and MRI. However, its application in ultrasound (US) imaging, especially in musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging, remains underexplored. The inherent variability of ultrasound, influenced by operator dependency and various imaging settings, presents significant challenges to the reproducibility of radiomic features. This study aims to identify whether commonly used image pre-processing methods can increase the reproducibility of radiomics fe

Prioritising measures and interventions to strengthen research reproducibility: a Delphi consultation study.

BACKGROUND: Research reproducibility - the ability of others to independently verify scientific findings by following the same methods and data - is a fundamental aspect of research integrity. When this fails, trust in evidence is undermined and research resources are wasted. Reproducibility measures describe the standards that define reproducible research, and reproducibility interventions are the actions used to improve those standards. There is little agreement on which practices and initiatives should be prioritised for implementation in practice. This study aimed to establish expert conse

Reproducibility of Novel Soft-Tissue Landmarks on Three-Dimensional Human Facial Scan Images in Caucasian and Asian.

BACKGROUND: Three-dimensional surface imaging is established in many disciplines for objective facial acquisition regarding anthropometry. Former studies addressed the validation of landmark-based measurements for single race. In order to distinguish racial difference, the reproducibility of the landmark measurements must first be validated. OBJECTIVES: Our purpose is to validate the reproducibility of 46 facial soft-tissue landmarks on x, y, z axes to prove their reliability as 3D reference points. METHODS: The study included 80 European Caucasian and 80 Chinese volunteers. Standardized 3D
