BACKGROUND: Trichilemmal cyst (TC) a rare tumour originating from the outer root sheath of the hair follicle particularly in the scalp has never been reported to involve the skull base. Here a case of TC extensively involving the skull base is presented. The neuro-imaging, operative, and pathological features are described. Possible histogenesis is also discussed.
METHOD: The clinical, radiological, operative, and pathological features of a TC involving the temporal-infratemporal fossae, orbit, paranasal sinuses, and the clivus is described.
FINDINGS: Multilocular cysts full of keratinized m

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study is to present our experience in treating paediatric sinonasal and skull base malignancies with exclusively endonasal endoscopic approach and measure its feasibility.
METHODS: This study is a retrospective review of seven patients under age of 19 years who have sinonasal and skull base malignancies and treated with endoscopic endonasal approach. The main outcome measures are the surgical resection, complications, survival rate, recurrence and gross facial growth.
RESULTS: Radical tumour resection was achieved in all cases with negative margins; no major compl

BACKGROUND Scalp neurofibromas are uncommon benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors and are typically associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Isolated scalp neurofibromas without NF1 findings are extremely rare, and large lesions with associated calvarial remodeling are even more exceptional. This study presents a giant occipital neurofibroma in a young patient without any diagnostic criteria of NF1 and discusses its clinical, radiological, surgical, and histopathological features in the context of current literature. CASE REPORT A 17-year-old male patient presented to our clinic with a

Primary intraosseous meningiomas (PIOMs) are rare extradural meningiomas, originating within the skull, and accounting for approximately 2% of all meningiomas. These tumors are exceptionally uncommon in children, since the majority occurs in adults between 20 and 60 years old. Few cases have been reported in the literature, focusing on clinical findings, surgery, and outcomes in younger people. We report a case of a 9-year-old female with progressive painful frontal skull bossing, without neurological symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) diagnosed an osteolytic lesion in the right parame

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This article will review functional and QOL outcomes among patients treated predominantly for sinonasal and nasopharyngeal malignancies.
RECENT FINDINGS: Treatment advances and interdisciplinary supportive care help to lessen the functional impairments and the reduction in quality of life (QOL) that were once accepted as inevitable tradeoffs for cure. Recent progress in QOL and Patient-Reported Outcome (PRO) instruments for this population will be covered. Sinonasal and nasopharyngeal tumors affect patients' quality of life, appearance, and critical functions. Tumors arise

Proton therapy (PT) due to dosimetric characteristics (Bragg peak formation, sharp dose slowdown) is currently one of the most high-tech techniques of radiation therapy exceeding the standards of photon methods. In recent decades, PT has traditionally been used, primarily, for head and neck cancers (HNC) including skull base tumors. Regardless of the fact that recently PT application area has significantly expanded, HNC still remain a leading indication for proton radiation since PT's physic-dosimetric and radiobiological advantages enable to achieve the best treatment results in these tumors.

Petrous meningiomas are defined as tumors with a basal dural attachment on the posterior surface of the petrous bone.1 Their insertion can be anterior to the meatus (petrous apex meningiomas), or posterior to the meatus, with associated hyperostotic bony invasion either pre- or retro-meatal.2 These meningiomas are amenable to curative surgical removal and have better surgical outcomes than more medially located true petroclival meningiomas that originate medial to the fifth nerve.2-4 They, however, remain challenging because of their close relationship to critical neurovascular structures in t

Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor and usually involves the long bones. Osteosarcoma of the skull, on the other hand, is relatively rare. Here, we present a 29-year-old man with a growing mass in the skull he first noticed after a fall while skateboarding. The initial clinical diagnosis was hematoma. While undergoing an evacuation surgery for a hematoma, a suspicious mass was detected which was biopsied. Histopathological evaluation showed high-grade osteosarcoma. The patient was referred to our hospital where he underwent definitive resection followed by adjuvant chemotherapy.

The foramen magnum meningioma (FMM) is one of most challenging tumors among all the meningiomas because of its distinctive location, clinical course, insidious onset, and the relative large size of the tumor during presentation. These tumors are slow-growing and clinical symptoms vary according to involvement of different structures including the spinal cord, vertebral artery, lower cranial nerves, and medulla oblongata. Controversies regarding appropriate surgical approach for resection of tumor in this unique location continue. Tumors in the posterior or posterolateral region of the foramen

BACKGROUND: Meningiomas represent one of the most common brain tumors and exhibit a clinically heterogeneous behavior, sometimes difficult to predict with classic histopathologic features. While emerging molecular profiling efforts have linked specific genomic drivers to distinct clinical patterns, the proteomic landscape of meningiomas remains largely unexplored.
METHODS: We utilize liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry with an Orbitrap mass analyzer to quantify global protein abundances of a clinically well-annotated formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) cohort (n = 61) of mening

BACKGROUND: To date, no symptomatic forms of epicrania fugax (EF) have been reported. Here, we describe the first EF-type pain to be probably caused by an underlying disorder.
CASE REPORT: A 77-year-old woman started suffering from left V1-V2 trigeminal neuralgia at 72 years of age. Neurologic examination was normal. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a left middle sphenoid wing meningioma compressing the left trigeminal nerve medially. After trying several neuromodulators, she received stereotactic radiotherapy. One month later, the episodes of facial pain were significantly diminished,
