Surgical submissions from canine splenectomy cases spanning a 3-year period (1988-1990) were evaluated. Eighty seven neoplasms of the spleen considered to be of nonangiomatous and nonlymphomatous origin were selected for morphologic classification, mitotic index determination, immunohistochemical analysis, and patient survival determination. Leiomyomas are benign smooth muscle tumors commonly originating from the uterus and gastrointestinal tract. Their appearance in extrauterine locations, such as the axilla, is rare, presenting a diagnostic challenge. Within this report, we highlight a case of a longstanding leiomyoma within the right axilla, associated imaging, and histopathological findings, as well as the prognosis of a 30-year-old male patient.

Angioleiomyomas are rare benign tumors of smooth muscle primarily originating from blood vessels. Hereditary leiomyomatosis (HL) is a rare autosomal dominant syndrome resulting from a mutation in the germline of the fumarate hydratase (FH) gene. Patients with this syndrome have an increased risk of cutaneous and uterine smooth muscle tumors as well as renal cancer. Renal carcinoma associated with hereditary leiomyomatosis (HLRCC) was recognized as a subtype of independent renal tumor in the 2016 WHO classification. We present a case of HLRCC occurring in a 39-year-old man with no family history or specific skin manifestations at the time of diagnosis.

Glomus tumors of the lung are rare benign neoplasm, originating from modified smooth muscle cells. The patients are usually presented with no or non-specific symptoms such as cough, dyspnea or hemoptysis. Although surgical treatment is considered as the treatment of choice, the endobronchial therapy can be applied to the patients who are unfit for surgical excision. Herein, we describe two rare cases of glomus tumor originated at large airway (trachea and main bronchus) without respiratory symptoms and review their characteristic radiologic, macroscopic and pathological features.

Clonal karyotypic alterations of a uterine angioleiomyoma of a 41-year-old woman are reported. Cytogenetically a stemline of the tumor and two related subclones with additional abnormalities due to karyotypic evolution were identified: 46,X,t(X;11)(p11.4;p15)/46, idem,inv(2)(p15q13)/46, idem,inv(2)(p15q13),t(5;20)(q13;q13.2). None of the aberrations observed in the present case has been reported in uterine smooth muscle tumors before.

Although the CD90 (Thy-1) was proposed as biomarker of several tumors and cancer stem cells, the involvement of this molecule in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and other less frequent hepatic neoplasms is still undefined. Leiomyosarcomas, neoplasms of smooth muscle, are rarely found within the orbit. Orbital leiomyosarcoma may be primary, metastatic, or secondary to radiation. When they are metastatic, patients almost exclusively have a history of a primary leiomyosarcoma, often occurring in the spermatic cord, skin, gastrointestinal tract, or the uterus. We present the case of 48-year-old woman who presented with a metastatic orbital leiomyosarcoma, which was identified before the primary tumor.

A 14-year-old Trakehner gelding was evaluated for recurrent colic, with episodes occurring over 1 year. Signs were consistent with intermittent ascending colon obstruction and hematochezia. Necropsy examination revealed an ulcerated mass extending into the lumen of the right dorsal ascending colon. Gross and histologic appearance and immunoreactivity to c-kit (CD117), desmin, vimentin, and smooth muscle actin, were consistent with a diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor.
