Primary localized amyloidosis of bladder is rare. We report a case of recurrence of multifocal primary amyloidosis of urinary bladder. Cystoscopy revealed a diffuse left lateral wall lesion with normal surrounding mucosa. Histopathological examination of the specimen revealed urinary bladder amyloidosis with negative surgical margins. Recurrent urinary bladder amyloidosis was confirmed 3 months after the first resection. Close follow-up is recommended.

Fresh human platelets and platelets cryopreserved in 4% dimethylsulfoxide were examined ultrastructurally before and after incubation in a suspension of latex particles. Cryopreserved platelets had fewer discoid forms than fresh platelets. Trials with bithionol sulphoxide involving 130 dogs, infected with either Echinococcus granulosus or Taenia hydatigena, indicated that a single treatment at a dose rate of 400 mg/kg or two treatments at 50 mg/kg eliminated the former, but a single treatment at 50 mg/kg was sufficient to eliminate the latter. Dose rates 200 mg/kg or more were lethal to some dogs. With two doses of 50 mg/kg, there was only minor discomfort from vomiting or diarrhoea in some dogs.

The formation of substituted benzyl alcohols from dicyanobenzenes and methanol (C-C coupling) is demonstrated as a model system for paired electrosynthesis and investigated at interdigitated microband array electrodes in a microreactor with/without intentionally added supporting electrolyte. Thirty-two patients with cysts caused by Echinococcus granulosus were treated with albendazole in a dosage of 10 mg/kg/day. Reversible abnormalities in liver-cell function tests were seen in five patients. Over a 1-yr period, 102 patients with a clinical diagnosis of either medial or lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) or rotator cuff tendonitis were treated with topical applications of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Stool samples from 836 cases with diarrhea and acute gastroenteritis from the Pediatric ward, Penang General Hospital, were examined for Cryptosporidium oocysts. A dimethyl sulfoxide modified acid fast technique was used for the identification of the parasites. 36 samples or 4.3% were found to be positive for Cryptosporidium. The prevalence of infection was higher (2.39%) in children with diarrhea and vomiting than in children with acute gastroenteritis alone (0.8%).
