We aimed to compare and analyze the outcomes of arthroscopic posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction with the Achilles tendon allograft and the quadriceps tendon allograft. Twenty-nine patients who received the same procedure of arthroscopic PCL reconstruction within our inclusion criteria were reviewed retrospectively. There were 13 patients in the Achilles tendon allograft group and 16 patients in the quadriceps tendon allograft group. At least in 2 years of follow-up period, we evaluated the patients using the posterior drawer test, KT 2000 test, Lysholm knee scoring scale, Tegner

The posterior tibial tendon functions as a primary stabilizer of the medial longitudinal arch of the foot. Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction accounts for 80% of cases of adult-acquired flatfoot deformity. It is classified into 4 stages based on the function of the tibialis posterior tendon, the reducibility of the deformity, and the condition of the ankle joint. The purpose of this Technical Note is to describe the technical details of endoscopically assisted reconstruction of theposterior tibial tendon for stage 2 posterior tibial tendon dysfunction. It consists of using the medial half of

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) restores joint stability following ACL injury but does not attenuate the heightened risk of developing knee osteoarthritis. Additionally, patellar tendon (PT) grafts incur a greater risk of osteoarthritis compared to hamstring grafts (HT). Aberrant gait biomechanics, including greater loading rates (i.e. impulsive loading), are linked to the development of knee osteoarthritis. However, the role of graft selection on walking gait biomechanics linked to osteoarthritis is poorly understood, thus the purpose of this study was to compare walking gait

Background: Chronic Achilles tendon ruptures are uncommon and increase long-term morbidity when untreated. There is no standard treatment for this condition. Methods: Chronic Achilles tendon rupture was repaired in 10 patients by harvesting the flexor hallucis longus tendon (FHL) using a minimally invasive technique. It was then transferred to the calcaneus and the remnant used to bridge the gap for reconstructing the Achilles tendon itself. The patients were assessed using the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Score (AOFAS) Ankle-Hindfoot Scale. Results: Patients were evaluated postoperativ

BACKGROUND: Recovery of tendon structure has been suggested to play a role in clinical success following Achilles tendon rupture. The purpose of this study was to identify side-to-side differences in tendon geometry and mechanical properties following Achilles tendon rupture and investigate the relationship of tendon structure with clinical outcomes.
METHODS: Participants within 1 year post complete rupture were included. Tendon geometry and mechanical properties were quantified using B-mode ultrasound imaging and continuous shear wave elastography (cSWE). Clinical outcomes included the heel-

Tears of the patellar and quadriceps tendon are common in the active population, especially in athletes. At present, several techniques for surgical repair and reconstruction are available. When reruptures occur, a reconstruction is mandatory. In the present paper, we describe a surgical technique for patellar and quadriceps tendon reconstruction using ipsilateral hamstring autograft. After routine hamstring tendon harvesting, the tendon ends are prepared using a whip stitch. A transverse tunnel is drilled in the midportion of the patella, the hamstring graft is passed through the patella, and

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction between by long fibular muscle tendon and by hamstring tendon under arthroscopy after ACL rupture.
METHODS: Between February 2010 and December 2012, 56 cases of ACL rupture underwent ACL reconstruction under arthroscopy. The long fibular muscle tendon was used in 26 cases (group A) and the hamstring tendon was used in 30 cases (group B). There was no significant difference in gender, age, side, disease duration, and preoperative Lachman test, Lysholm score, and the International Knee Documentation Commi

BACKGROUND: Bicipital tendinitis is a common cause of anterior shoulder pain, but there is no evidence that acute inflammation of the extra- … subpectoral biceps tenodesis for anterior shoulder pain localized to the bicipital groove. Excised tendons were sent for histologic analysis. Specimens were graded using a semiquantitative scoring system to evaluate tenocyte morphology, the presence of ground substance, collagen bundle characteristics, and vascular changes.
RESULTS: Chronic inflammation …

A twenty-year-old male visited our clinic with wrist and long finger metacarpophalangeal (MP) joint pain. Dynamic ultrasonography revealed sagittal band (SB) ulnar subluxation and extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) volar subluxation. Magnetic resonance imaging showed longitudinal splitting and dislocation of the volar half slip of the ECU tendon. The redundant radial SB was augmented and ECU sheath was advanced to the periosteum using suture anchors. He was able to perform his previous activities at the last follow-up. We encountered a case of "simulateous" ECU dislocation with extensor tendon sublu

Patellar tendon rupture is a devastating complication after total knee arthroplasty. The results of surgical treatment of this complication were discouraging in most of the reports. We describe a case of rupture of patellar tendon 7 weeks after total knee arthroplasty treated with a turndown quadriceps flap and circumferential wiring. Two years and 6 months after operation, the patient had no extension lag of the knee and knee flexion to 110 degrees .

BACKGROUND: Tears of the subscapularis tendon commonly are associated with instability of the long head of the biceps tendon. Standard surgical treatment includes tenodesis or tenotomy of the biceps tendon. However, chronic discomfort from spasms and cosmetic disadvantages have been reported following both procedures, while the potential for functional impairments remains controversial. We investigated the outcome of stabilization of the long head of the biceps tendon in the context of early repair of traumatic tears of the subscapularis tendon.
METHODS: We performed stabilization of an unsta

We examined whether periosteum enhances the healing process of a tendon in a bone tunnel and leads to better biomechanical fixation in a shorter period of time. The effect of the periosteum-wrapped tendon on tendon-to-bone healing was analyzed in 20 New Zealand white rabbits. The animals were divided into two groups, a periosteum-wrapped group and a control group. The two legs were operated on in the same manner. The long digital extensor tendon was harvested and transplanted into the proximal tibial tunnel. One limb was transplanted with the tendon wrapped with periosteum, while the other was

The most common ruptures of all of the tendons of the hand are those of the extensor pollicis longus tendon (EPL). As to its etiology, the rupture of EPL can spontaneously occur tendosynovitis in rheumatic patients or rarely in result of conservative treatment of distal forearm fractures. During the last 18 months, 4 cases of EPL ruptures following the conservative treatment of distal forearm fractures have been diagnosed in our clinical material. All patients underwent the transfer of extensor carpi radialis longus (ECRL) tendon due to. We present our indications of the technique, and the cli…

The use of pedicled flexor digitorum superficialis tendon as a tendon graft in the second stage of flexor tendon reconstruction has the advantage of employing local intrasynovial tendon graft and allowing early active range of motion. This method of staged flexor tendon reconstruction was used in 47 patients between 1983 and 1993. Thirty-three patients were evaluated 1 year or longer after the second stage of surgery. The follow-up period averaged 3.7 years. Sixty-four percent of the injuries were in zone II, and 30% were Boyes grade V in severity. Good to excellent results were achieved in 64

We treated 32 patients with stage-II posterior tibial tendon dysfunction with calcaneal osteotomy and flexor digitorum longus tendon transfer. These 32 patients (29 women, 3 men) had an average age of 58 years (range, 46 to 73 years) and had been symptomatic for an average of 2.5 years (range, 1 to 8 years) before surgical correction. The indication for surgery was the presence of medial foot pain refractory to nonoperative treatments, including shoewear modifications, orthoses, and bracing. All patients were examined at a mean of 20 months (range, 14 to 48 months) after surgery. Functional an
