BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: To discuss the role of proportional reflux hydrodissection (PRH) during pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) in eyes with diabetic tractional retinal detachment (TRD).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study, records of patients with diabetic TRD involving the fovea undergoing PPV with the help of PRH between January 2015 to March 2017 were noted. PRH relies on the Constellation system's proportional reflux feature. The mean age, gender, and pre- and postoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were noted. Minimum follow-up period of 3 months was ascertained.

BACKGROUND: Chest wall trauma is a frequent cause for emergency department presentations, with traumatic pneumathoraces a relatively common occurance. Vocal cord paralysis however, is uncommon.
CASE REPORT: A 44 year old man presented with a traumatic pneumothorax following a fall. A weak and hoarse voice was noted and vocal cord palsy demonstrated on indirect laryngoscopy. CT chest was unremarkable for mediastinal lesions.
CONCLUSIONS: Clinicians need be mindful of traction injuries to mediastinal structures when examining those with chest wall injuries.
