UNLABELLED: BACKGROUND; The link between experiencing difficulties in reading or understanding and non-compliance with drug treatment among seniors is not clearly established.
OBJECTIVES: We measured the effect of both difficulties in reading, as well as difficulties in understanding prescription labelling, on non-compliance with drug treatments among seniors. Since the use of a pill organizer prepared by a pharmacist may compensate for the problems in reading, we also checked the potential modifying effect of the use of a pill organizer on these two associations.

Nurses often find angry patients threatening. In this article, current research will be synthesized to provide guidance to nurses whose specialty area may not be psychiatric nursing. Guidelines for assessing and intervening with angry clients will be provided. Such guidelines are likely to be useful to nurses in every clinical setting, from the emergency room to the rural clinic to the high-tech hospital unit. Nurses will also learn some techniques for managing their own anger at uncooperative or hostile clients.

Seventy-two thoracic transplantation centers responded to a survey soliciting specific information about policies regarding the listing of HCV-positive candidates and the use of HCV-positive donor organs. Systemic histiocytosis is a rare familial histiocytic disorder seen in the Bernese mountain dog. This article documents six confirmed cases of the disease seen at the Animal Medical Centre between June 1992 and June 1994 and describes the different presentations of the disease, response to therapy and progression. Three of the dogs are still alive; of these, two are in remission six and 18 months later and in one case the owner refused treatment. Three of the cases were euthanased for humane reasons.

CASE: A 79-year-old male barber with an acromioclavicular joint ganglion cyst and cuff tear arthropathy developed a large mass in his right shoulder. He refused surgery. Repeated punctures of the cyst and the injection of hyaluronic acid into the shoulder joint several times gradually reduced the cyst volume, and eventually, the cyst disappeared completely, with no recurrence for over 4 years. Young children can feel great anxiety and/or fear when facing their dental examination and treatment, and may refuse to be examined. To help children overcome these emotions, we originated a method called "Dental Drawings and Coloring". We investigated whether the new method might be effective for 207 children between the ages of two and four who had completed treatment and had returned for their first check-up, about three months later. Results showed that using the method of "Dental Drawings and Coloring" worked fairly effectively in alleviating their anxiety and fear.
