"Ulcosilvanil" (Romanian registered mark), administered in duodenal and gastric ulcer patients, leads to a constant and long-lasting inhibition of gastric acid secretion, consequently to disappearance of subjective symptoms as well as to radiologically and endoscopically proved healing of the crater. The high percentage and the quick ulcer healing by "Ulcosilvanil", as compared with antacid and anticholinergic therapy or with H2-receptor blocking agents, prove the outstanding therapeutical value of the former.

This study evaluated the efficacy of two dosage levels of enprostil in 129 patients with gastric ulcer disease. Patients with endoscopically diagnosed gastric ulcer were randomly assigned to receive enprostil 70 micrograms, enprostil 35 micrograms, or a matching placebo capsule twice daily for six weeks. Ulcer healing rates were similar in all treatment groups after two weeks of therapy, but began to show some differences in favor of the enprostil treatment groups after four weeks. As recently as 1968, twice as many men as women had peptic ulcer disease in the United States. To determine the current pattern of ulcer disease frequency in men and women, we examined data from the National Center for Health Statistics. Forty-eight patients with endoscopically proven gastric ulcer were treated either with ranitidine tablets, 150 mg twice daily, or with placebo tablets under double-blind conditions. Three patients were for various reasons excluded from the study. After 6 weeks' treatment a second endoscopy was performed. Epithelial cell proliferation in the duodenum was investigated in 50 patients by incubating mucosal biopsy samples with tritiated thymidine, followed by autoradiography. Duodenal ulcer is being observed with increasing frequency in the Black population of South Africa, this increase occurring pari passu with industrialization. It is noteworthy that the type of ulcer seen is the 'Western' type of duodenal ulcer, haemorrhage and perforation being the major complications. This is a report of a 30-year-old woman who had a herpetic corneal ulcer following radial keratotomy. Clinical applications of the results of this case reveal the following questions. (1) Can antiviral metabolites be used to prevent corneal scars, especially in the visual axis? (2) Should radial keratotomy be avoided during the vulnerable menstrual cycle period of females to prevent possible triggering of a herpetic ulcer regardless of previous herpes history?

One hundred sixty-six patients with documented recurrent or marginal ulcers following previous ulcer operations were seen at Duke Medical Center and the Durham VA Hospital from 1950 through 1980. A case report of perforated duodenal ulcer in a ten year old Holstein cow is presented. On three occasions, sudden anorexia and rapidly progressing abdominal fluid distension were associated with metabolic alkalosis, hypochloremia and hypokalemia. Rumen fluid at the time of the second episode was acidic and contained an excessive amount of chloride ion. An abdominal mass dorsal to the abomasum involving the pylorus and several loops of small bowel was identified but not corrected at surgery. Necropsy confirmed a 1.5 cm diameter duodenal ulcer 6 cm distal to the pylorus.

Seventeen cases of chronic leg ulcers were examined, 12 males and five females, with a mean age of 45 years. The average duration of ulcers was 21 years. Eleven of the cancers arose from ulcers that recurrently healed and broke down. Three arose from ulcers that never healed and three from stable scars. Treatment was by various levels of amputation in nine patients and by excision and skin grafting in one.
