OBJECTIVE: Urinary bladder endometriosis is a severe form of endometriosis often requiring surgery. The several cases treated at our hospital in recent years has led us to evaluate the incidence of urinary bladder endometriosis in Finland.

A urinary bladder tumor in young pregnant women is a very rare finding. It may bring diagnostic problems despite use of advanced imaging techniques. BACKGROUND: Complete eversion of the urinary bladder is a rare problem that presents a serious management challenge. Currently no standard treatment recommendations exist for management. We describe our experience with bladder eversion and present an algorithm for treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Malignancies are rare in defunctionalized bladders and are thought to arise from metaplasia secondary to chronic inflammation. Transitional cell and squamous cell carcinomas are the most common but there are three reported cases of mucinous adenocarcinoma.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 57-year-old Caucasian man presenting with penile discharge for 30 years following ileal conduit surgery for neurogenic bladder, and who was found to have primary mucinous adenocarcinoma of his defunctionalized bladder.

TAR syndrome is a congenital malformation syndrome characterized by bilateral absence of the radius and thrombocytopenia. The known urinary anomalies are duplex ureter, dilatation of renal pelvis, horseshoe kidney and functional problems like vesicoureteral reflux and pyelonephritis. Irritative voiding symptoms in women are most often due to uncomplicated urinary tract infection. A cost-effective approach to the treatment of urinary tract infections is a reasonable first step. However, in patients who have persistent or frequently recurrent symptoms, a more thorough evaluation is warranted. These women may be found to have interstitial cystitis, requiring further evaluation. While interstitial cystitis remains a difficult disease to treat, a multi-modality therapy provides excellent symptom relief.

BACKGROUND: Nephrogenic adenoma (NA) is a rare disease of the urinary tract. We report our clinical experience with this disease in the urinary bladder and review the literature.
METHODS: Between April 1994 and July 2004, 8 patients were diagnosed with NA of the urinary bladder: 3 men and 5 women, aged 23-77 years (mean 49.6). Multiple predisposing factors were analyzed. The mean follow-up time was 56 months.

Assessment of prognostic significance of interleukine-8 (L-8) urine levels was made in 12 patients with verified surface cancer of the urinary bladder (SCUB) on adjuvant intravesical immunotherapy. Quantitative enzyme immunoassay identified IL-8 in the urine before intravesical injection of BCG vaccine and 6 hours later. A total of 192 urine samples were studied ("Multiskan-Jems", 405 nm). PURPOSE: We evaluated the outcome of children who underwent bladder neck closure for the management of severe urinary incontinence.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Bladder neck closure was performed in 12 patients with bladder exstrophy, 4 with myelomeningocele and 4 with urogenital sinus anomalies for severe urinary incontinence that persisted after multiple failed bladder outlet procedures. The effectiveness of bladder neck closure and the need for subsequent surgeries were ascertained.
