BACKGROUND: The mortality from perioperative anaphylaxis has recently been quoted in a range between 3 and 9%. However, it was our impression in Western Australia that we had had no deaths from perioperative anaphylaxis for over a decade. Chinese bayberry Myrica rubra is a very popular fruit in southeastern China. In spite of its wide consumption, no allergies to this fruit have been reported previously. BACKGROUND: Hydatid disease, a parasitic infestation of humans, is endemic in the Mediterranean region, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East, and mostly involves the liver. Anaphylactic reactions, which sometimes are the first manifestations of the disease, frequently occur due to cyst rupture after a minor/major trauma, though they may also be spontaneously seen on rare occasions. INTRODUCTION: Exercise induced-anaphylaxis is a rare allergic disease. In most cases, the ingestion of a specific food within a maximum of 4 hours preceding physical activity is necessary to develop the anaphylactic reaction.
CASE-REPORTS: We report 7 cases of food-dependant exercise induced-anaphylaxis. The responsible foods were wheat (2 cases), corn, barley, shrimp, apple, paprika and mustard.
