A rare case of straight sinus thrombosis in a 36-year-old female with sudden onset of status migrainosus is presented. This condition was demonstrated by a linear density in the midline on a noncontrast computed tomography scan, as a filling defect at the location of straight sinus on magnetic resonance imaging, and by the inability to visualize blood flow in the straight sinus on magnetic resonance venography, with a similar demonstration on a 4-vessel digital subtraction angiography.

Three cases of epidermoid cyst of the spleen treated by partial splenectomy are reported on children. The diagnosis rests now on the ultrasonography. The operative indication is systematic because of the risks of complication. The polar localisation of the cysts permits one to make a conservative surgery. The partial splenectomy is a technique of choice in this benign tumoral pathology. Postoperative digital intravenous subtraction angiography demonstrated the good vascularization of the remaining part of the spleen.

BACKGROUND: Initial angiography may not identify a bleeding source in some subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) cases. We report an instructive case of initially angiogram-negative SAH where an anterior communicating artery aneurysm became apparent during treatment for vasospasm, subsequently requiring successful endovascular embolization.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A woman in her 60s presented with diffuse SAH (Fisher group 3); initial computed tomography angiography (CTA) and digital subtraction angiography were negative for aneurysms. Symptomatic vasospasm developed on day 4, and treatment including cilos

Various forms of vasculitis may result in mesenteric ischaemia, ischaemic colitis or aneurysm formation in the aorta or intestinal blood vessels. Vasculitides may involve large- and/or medium-sized vessels, medium- and/or small-sized vessels, or small-sized vessels only. It is essential to differentiate between the different forms of vasculitis since diagnostic tests and therapies differ greatly. Gastrointestinal manifestations of vasculitis can generally be detected using angiography, digital subtraction angiography and/or magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). Various laboratory tests are hel…

A 54-year-old woman with no relevant medical history presented with severe headache, nausea, and vomiting for 8 days. Imaging examination revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage in the left interpeduncular cistern without aneurysms. Computed tomography angiography and digital subtraction angiography found an anomalous vein near the site of the hemorrhagic clots, indicating abnormalities in cerebral venous drainage that provided an anastomosis between the drainage system of the deep middle cerebral, petrosal, and lateral mesencephalic veins. In the primitive pattern, the basal vein of Rosenthal drai

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the feasibility of CT angiography (CTA) for assessing anterior choroidal artery (AChA) and posterior communicating artery (PComA) dilatation in patients with moyamoya syndrome (MMS).
METHODS: Eighty-eight MMS patients who underwent digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and CTA within 1 month were enrolled. The AChA was graded using both DSA and CTA. Given the features of dual blood supply, DSA was firstly used for grading of the PComA. Then, the calibers of PComA, P1 or P2 segment of the posterior cerebral artery (PCA), were recorded from CTA. Taking DSA as a reference

Diffuse cerebral angiomatosis is a rare disorder of the brain and only 5 cases have been reported to date. We report a 16-year-old female patient who presented to the emergency department with seizures. The patient had no hereditary syndromes, no epistaxis, no skin lesions and no telangiectasia. There was no livedo reticularis. The ophthalmologic examination was within normal limits. Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) showed multiple diffuse tortuous vessels all around the brain tissue and ventricular system. Brain CT showed multiple calcifications. BACKGROUND: Although black-blood MRI (BB-MRI) can identify plaques in the cervical carotid arteries, this modality has not been applied in intracranial arteries. We imaged the lumina and walls of stenotic middle cerebral arteries (MCAs) in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients using high-resolution BB-MRI, in order to characterize vulnerable plaques and to determine the diagnostic accuracy of BB-MRI in MCA stenosis.
METHODS: Multicontrast (T(1), T(2) and proton density)-weighted BB-MRIs were acquired in 15 patients with MCA stenosis and in 2 volunteers. Each MCA was classified into one of thr

OBJECTIVES: Pial arteriovenous fistulas (pAVFs) are direct connections between the pial artery and vein without an intervening nidus. We report a rare case of craniocervical junction (CCJ) pAVF causing medullary and spinal cord edema resulting from surgical removal of the varix with remnant shunt after coil embolization.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 16-year-old man presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Digital subtraction angiography revealed a CCJ pAVF with multiple fistulas at the 2 varices (varix A and varix B), which was fed by the bilateral lateral spinal arteries and anterior spinal artery (AS

BACKGROUND: Pure arterial malformations (PAMs) are rare intracranial vascular anomalies. As recently reported, PAMs have a benign natural history and can be treated conservatively. However, their etiology, natural history, and treatment have not yet been fully elucidated.
METHODS: We present a rare case of the progression of a PAM involving the anterior cerebral artery. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass located in the suprasellar region associated with obstructive hydrocephalus. Digital subtraction angiography showed evolution of the arterial anomaly with progression compared with the

Currently carotid artery stenting (CAS) is a widely used technique for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis. However, some patients with restenosis following CAS have been reported, resulting in potential clinical problems. The purpose of this study was to investigate the hemodynamic changes before and after CAS to find the factors that may influence restenosis. Five patients (two with restenosis, three without restenosis) were included in this study. The geometry and rheological conditions of the carotid arteries were obtained from three-dimensional digital subtraction angiography and ult

BACKGROUND: Hemorrhagic moyamoya disease (MMD) and the fragile periventricular collaterals are known to have a causal relationship. Digital subtraction angiography and magnetic resonance angiography have shown the presence of fragile periventricular moyamoya vessels. However, dynamic fragile periventricular moyamoya vessels have never been observed under direct vision.
OBSERVATIONS: The authors treated two patients with hemorrhagic MMD: a 42-year-old man with intraventricular hemorrhage and a 47-year-old woman with intracerebral hemorrhage. Endoscope-integrated indocyanine green video angiogr

OBJECTIVE The study aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of 320-detector row nonsubtracted and subtracted volume CT angiography (VCTA) in detecting small cerebral aneurysms (< 3 mm) compared with 3D digital subtraction angiography (3D DSA). METHODS Six hundred sixty-two patients underwent 320-detector row VCTA and 3D DSA for suspected cerebral aneurysms. Five neuroradiologists independently reviewed VCTA and 3D DSA images. The 3D DSA was considered the reference standard, and the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of nonsubtracted and subtracted VCTA in depicting small aneurysms were an

Pancreaticoduodenal artery pseudoaneurysm is one kind of rare splanchnic artery aneurysm. Hemorrhage from the lesion could be life-threatening. We present a case which color Doppler ultrasound and computed tomography angiography (CTA) only showed pancreatic pseudocyst on the background of chronic pancreatitis at first, but contrast-enhanced ultrasound detected blood flow in the pseudocyst and a pancreaticoduodenal artery pseudoaneurysm was worked up several days after. Finally, the pancreaticoduodenal artery pseudoaneurysm was confirmed by digital subtracted angiography. It might suggest the p

Time-resolved magnetic resonance angiography (TR MRA) is a promising less invasive technique for the diagnosis of intracranial vascular lesions and hypervascular tumors. Similar to 4-dimensional computed tomographic angiography obtaining high frame rate images, TR MRA utilizes acceleration techniques to acquire sequential arterial and venous phase images for identifying, localizing, and classifying vascular lesions. Because of the good agreement with digital subtraction angiography for grading brain arteriovenous malformations with the Spetzler-Martin classification and the good sensitivity fo

Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) after subarachnoid hemorrhage can be evaluated using clinical assessment, non-invasive and invasive techniques. An electronic literature search was conducted on English-language articles investigating DCI in human subjects with subarachnoid hemorrhage. A total of 31 relevant papers were identified evaluating the role of clinical assessment, transcranial Doppler, computed tomographic angiography, and computed tomographic perfusion. Clinical assessment by bedside evaluations is limited, especially in patients initially in poorer clinical condition or who are recei
