An extensive potential energy surface search of the methanol-H2S binary complex reveals four distinct conformers (two each of S-H⋯O and O-H⋯S H-bonded) within a small energy window (binding energies within -2.9 to -3.3 kcal mol-1). The authors report a case of congenital optic disc pit with serous macular detachment successfully treated, with argon laser photocoagulation in the temporal border of the pit, followed by intravitreous injection of C3F8 (100%) 0.3 ml. Patient was followed up for 12 months. Retinal reattachment was associated with improvement in visual acuity, as well as return of the fovea to its normal configuration shown by optical coherence tomography.

The retinopathy of prematurity is the most important cause of blindness at children and one of the most frequent cause of blindness in the postnatal period. 435 newborn prematures and dismatures, were examined in the first two weeks since they were born. The ophthalmological exam showed vasoconstriction of retinal vessels. The treatment consisted in cryotHerapy with good results. The most up-to-date method is the therapy with argon laser mounted on the indirect ophthalmoscope.

Treatment of intraocular cysticercosis requires selection of the proper method, prevention of complications, and careful follow-up. Small subretinal cysticercus can be treated with xenon or argon photocoagulation. Macular cysticercus are extracted through a sclerochoroidal incision. Large cysticercus can be removed in selected cases with an outcome probe placed in the subretinal space. Cysticercus in the vitreous should be removed with a suction-cutter probe via the pars plana.

Gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE), a rare yet treatable cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, has been described in a variety of autoimmune diseases. We describe a patient who had typical Sjögren's syndrome and iron deficiency anemia requiring blood transfusion. An endoscopy showed characteristic findings of GAVE. After several fulguration therapies with argon-plasma coagulator, the mucosal lesions improved and her hemoglobin levels returned to normal.

A 63-year-old man developed hypotony due to a cyclodialysis cleft after suture fixation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens. Since medical management and argon laser photocoagulation were unsuccessful, a direct cyclopexy was performed. The intraocular pressure returned to normal postoperatively, and gonioscopy confirmed closure of the cleft. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of cyclodialysis complicating ciliary sulcus fixation of a posterior chamber lens.

The authors describe the clinical picture of "presumed histoplasmosis" with the typical disciform mascular lesion which is found in a increasing number of Dutch patients. Although systemic histoplasmosis is not endemic in the Netherlands, the authors feel they are dealing with the same entity. The therapy is elucidated, especially (Argon laser) photocoagulation of favourably situated subretinal neovascularisations. The importance of adequate coagulation technique and frequent (fluographic) follow-up studies in view of possible complications is stressed.

PURPOSE: To present our experience of slit-lamp laser photocoagulation with a pediatric quadraspheric contact lens for the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 8 eyes of 4 premature babies with threshold ROP were consecutively treated under general anesthesia by means of blue-green argon laser photocoagulation delivered through a table mounted slit-lamp and a wide field contact lens specially designed for infants.
