Because synthetic vascular prostheses perform poorly in small-diameter revascularization, biological vascular substitutes are being developed as an alternative. Reviewed are the causes of hemorrhagic shock, pathophysiology of blood loss as well as clinical signs and diagnostic measures. The problematic nature of determination and judgement of blood loss, especially at internal bleeding and during operations is pointed out. Measures for prevention and stanching of bleeding are touched. Blood, blood plasma and colloids (dextran, gelatine and hydroxyethyl starch) for volume replacement and their side effects are discussed briefly.

The developed parameters for hemolyzate acid-base treatment in the presence of hydrogen peroxide with the subsequent ethanol fractionation made it possible to suggest a method for isolating a modified globin from erythrocytes of donor blood stored for different time. The method is of applied significance because it permits production not only of a new effective plasma substitute of the hemodynamic action but also contributes considerably to solution of the problem of the donor blood erythrocytes utilization.

Non-nutritive sweeteners (NNS) are widely used as sugar substitutes; however, their effects on different aspects of health are still controversial. This study aimed to determine whether NNS consumption in comparison with water, sugar-sweetener beverages, or a placebo affects blood pressure, heart rate, and pulse rate in adults. We searched electronic databases including PubMed, Scopus, ISI Web of Science, and Google Scholar, up to July 2025.
