To explore the human T cell response to acute viral infection, we performed a longitudinal analysis of CD8(+) T cells responding to the live yellow fever virus and smallpox vaccines--two highly successful human vaccines. Pneumocystis jirovecii was detected in sputum samples and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) obtained from HIV/AIDS patients complicated with Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia by Giemsa staining. Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus (VLS) is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis of unknown etiology affecting the external genitalia. In pediatric patients, it can lead to significant discomfort and progressive structural changes in tissues. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the participation of immune checkpoints and inflammatory mediators in the pathogenesis of chronic diseases, including VLS. PURPOSE: To report the histopathological findings of the cornea with fulminant Mooren ulcer, an idiopathic autoimmune keratitis.
METHODS: A 54-year-old woman was diagnosed with Mooren ulcer. Despite intensive immunosuppression, corneal perforation developed, and penetrating keratoplasty with a limbal tectonic graft was performed. Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis is a severe cutaneous adverse reaction characterized by the rapid development of nonfollicular, sterile pustules on an erythematous base. It is attributed to drugs in the majority of cases. BACKGROUND: A large number of immature T lymphocytes in thymoma may reflect the biological function of the neoplastic epithelial cells. However, to confirm that this lymphocyte-inducing activity is unique to thymoma, lymphocytes associated with other thymic tumors need to be studied.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We used flow cytometry to study lymphocytes recovered from various thymic tumors (65 thymomas, 24 with myasthenia gravis; 5 thymic cancers; 5 germ cell tumors including 3 needle biopsy samples; and 2 other tumors) and results were analyzed in reference to those from 36 normal thymuses.
