We report the implantation of a Berlin Heart ventricular assist device (VAD) in a 4-year-old boy with hypoplastic left heart syndrome previously palliated with Norwood and Glenn operations, who presented with progressive ventricular failure and hypoxemia. A case of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) associated with fever, heart failure, and left ventricular (LV) aneurysm is reported. A case of arteriovenous fistula of the left internal mammary artery occluded by Gianturco coil is reported. A 26-year-old male suffered multiple explosive injuries. Right heart failure developed postoperatively. Digital subtraction angiography demonstrated arteriovenous fistulas between the left internal mammary artery and left subclavian and innominate veins. Considering previous multiple surgical interventions and severe general condition of the patient, both arteriovenous fistulas were successfully occluded by transcatheter placement of a Gianturco coil.

Presented is a case story of a patient with highly elevated serum levels of the tumour marker CA 125 (Cancer Antigen 125). The patient was thought to have ovarian cancer, but eventually the source of the elevated serum CA 125 levels became clear: cardiac failure caused by thyrotoxicosis. To detect the genesis and the prognosis of left ventricular failure (LVF) following the valve replacement surgery to mitral stenosis (MS), preoperative values and postoperative courses were assessed in 90 patients with MS. Complete atrioventricular block in the newborn occasionally requires emergency intervention when the heart rate is too low to provide adequate cardiac output. While medications are frequently ineffective, emergent implantation of a pacemaker is not always feasible and carries a significant morbidity. The effect of exposure to cigarette smoke on cardiovascular function was examined in conscious, restrained Sprague-Dawley rats. Rats were exposed to 3, 6 and 9 puffs of either air or cigarette smoke during the "break in" period and to 10 puffs on the day of the experiment (day 4).
