Gossypiboma is a surgical sponge that is retained in the body after the operation. A 39-year-old female presented with vague lower abdominal pain, fever, and rectal discharge 15 mo after hysterectomy. The sponge remaining in the abdomen had no radiopaque marker. Therefore a series of radiographic evaluations was fruitless. The surgical sponge was found in the rectosigmoid colon on colonoscopy. The sponge penetrated the sigmoid colon and rectum transmurally, forming an opening on both sides. The patient underwent low anterior resection and was discharged without postoperative complications.

We report the case of a patient with sigmoid colon cancer with synchronous liver metastasis who underwent simultaneous sigmoid colectomy and partial hepatectomy by laparoscopic surgery. A 70-year-old man with positive fecal occult blood was diagnosed with sigmoid colon cancer and referred to our hospital. INTRODUCTION: Osseous metaplasia in the gastrointestinal tract is a rare phenomenon.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 62-year-old Hispanic man with two colonic polypoid lesions, one of which, upon resection and histopathological examination, was found to be a traditional serrated adenoma with a focus of stromal osseous metaplasia.
CONCLUSIONS: Our patient's case is the third report of stromal osseous metaplasia in a traditional serrated adenoma of the sigmoid colon.

Sarcomatoid carcinoma is a rare tumor of the urinary bladder and accounts for approximately 0.3% of all bladder malignancies. In these tumors, histogenesis and biological behaviour remains controversial. Herein, we report a case of sarcomatoid carcinoma with osteosarcomatoid differentiation of the urinary bladder with simulataneous sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma.

This study aimed to describe an unusual case of metachronous isolated inguinal lymph nodes metastasis from sigmoid carcinoma. A 62-year-old man was referred to our department because of an obstructing sigmoid carcinoma. Colonoscopy showed the obstructing lesion at 30 cm from the anal verge and abdominal CT revealed a sigmoid lesion infiltrating the left lateral abdominal wall. Inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) is a rare, localized, nonneoplastic lesion originating from the submucosa of the gastrointestinal tract. Microscopically, these lesions are made up of a complex network of variable-size blood vessels and diffuse inflammatory cells contained in the edematous stroma. They are most often found in the stomach, followed by the small intestine, and rarely in the esophagus or the large intestine. We report a case of sigmoid colonic IFP presenting bloody stool treated with endoscopic resection.

We present a rare occurrence of a perforated diverticulum of the sigmoid colon found within the contents of a strangulated left inguinal hernia in a 75-year-old man. The hernia was repaired using the Bassini technique. An end colostomy was established after resection of the diseased section of the sigmoid. We review the relevant literature and discuss the choice of repair techniques in such situations.

Perforation of the colon after colonoscopy is a rare but potentially lethal complication. It usually occurs when endoscopy is performed for therapeutic purposes. In these cases the election of the best treatment is difficult and still controversial. Laparoscopy is a new approach for diagnosis and treatment of this condition. We report a case of a patient who was initially treated laparoscopically after a colonoscopic perforation. A postoperative leak was detected and the patient underwent open surgery. Possible therapeutic approaches and a literature review are discussed.
