INTRODUCTION: Henna, or Lawsonia inermis, has been used since antiquity by women in the Orient for dyeing the hair, hands, and feet. Contact dermatitis to pure henna is very rare, most often caused by additives such as perfume oils or paraphenylenediamine (PPD). We report the case of a girl who presented contact dermatitis to henna associated with eczema to draw attention to the dangers related to its use.

An 11-year-old boy got a temporary black henna tattoo while on vacation. After 3 days he developed an itching rash at the site of the tattoo, that spread to the rest of the body. This was most likely an allergic contact dermatitis and erythema exsudativum multiforme minor caused by the often high concentrations of the strong sensitizer para-phenylenediamine (PPD) in the henna.

An azo-based dye (I) was designed for the detection of cyanide by utilizing a new indirect method. In the presence of Cu(II), compound I could give rise to visible red-to-yellow color change. The resultant yellow solution could change to red immediately upon the addition of trace cyanide, with the detection limit of 0.15 ppm, but no changes were observed in the presence of other anions, including Cl(-), I(-), IO(3)(-), SO(4)(2-), NO(2)(-), Br(-), H(2)PO(4)(-), F(-), SCN(-), HSO(4)(-), ClO(4)(-) and CN(-), making compound I a selective and sensitive cyanide chemosensor.

A new dual luminescent sensitive paint for barometric pressure and temperature (T) is presented. The industrial tanning of leather usually produces considerable amounts of chromium-containing solid waste and liquid effluents and raises many concerns on its environmental effect as well as on escalating landfill costs. Turmeric, a spice derived from the rhizome of the plant Curcuma longa, contains the chemical curcumin, which is responsible for turmeric's taste, color, and biologic properties. Curcumin is used as a spice in foods, as a treatment in traditional medicine, as a dye for fur, and as a component in nutritional supplements. A few cases of allergic contact dermatitis from curcumin have been reported. We report two cases of contact urticaria from curcumin. These cases are mediated by two different mechanisms of contact urticaria: nonimmunologic and immunologic (immunoglobulin-E mediated).

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Minute lesions in the colon are of increasing clinical interest. Conventional endoscopic techniques are inadequate for visualizing these lesions, and magnification chromoendoscopy is required to identify them. This study compared the effectiveness of a simpler colon preparation method with the standard technique. Patients and Methods : Seven patients received dilute methylene blue (0.05 %) by enema prior to the endoscopic evaluation. The extent, quality, and ease of dye delivery were compared with the standard methods.

The new applications of FTIR micro-spectroscopy in the field of forensic science are presented, and the process and results of infrared spectra measurements of many kinds of samples, such as paint, fiber, dye, plastic, rubber, ink and drug have been discussed in detail, including two real cases. Various sampling accessories (Diamond cell, Attenuated total reflection and Micro manipulator system) and different determination modes (transmission and reflectance) are used according to the properties of samples.
