Several acrylate-based materials are commercially available as embedding resins for the histological analysis of non-decalcified hard tissues, including implants. However, commercial embedding resins are imported, expensive, and take a long time to buy. We conducted several tests to apply a mixture of methyl methacrylate and oleyl alcohol (oleyl Alc) as an embedding resin on a non-decalcified bone specimen. Further, we observed differences in the compressive strength of the block resin and the fused bone sample, changes in crystallinity, and a hydrophilic change in the block. Hematoxylin and e

Composite resin-retained fixed partial dentures are widely accepted as an alternative to conventional prostheses. This article describes the treatment of a patient in whom both maxillary lateral incisors were missing and space for normal-sized pontics was insufficient. The incisors were replaced bilaterally with a resin-bonded fixed partial denture consisting of a cantilevered resin-bonded framework with a ceramic pontic that overlapped the mesial portion of the canine's facial aspect. This design created an esthetically acceptable prosthesis through a conservative and simple approach.

BACKGROUND: Severely damaged molars pose significant challenges in restorative dentistry. Conventional methods, such as resin composite restorations, often fail to provide sufficient fracture resistance, marginal integrity, and sealing, leading to frequent failures and secondary caries. This study aims to compare the mechanical properties and marginal integrity of 3D-printed Ti-6Al-4V root-extended endocrowns with direct resin composite restorations in molars with 4-wall defects. METHODS: Forty-two extracted third molars were randomly assigned to a 3D-printed Ti-6Al-4V root-extended endocrown

Hybrid glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites have been used for decades in various engineering applications. However, it has a drawback with its application in marine/flood environments due to a lack of water resistance and frail mechanical stability. Floods have been considered one of the most periodic hazards that could hit urban areas, due to climate change. The present paper aims to address this gap and to investigate the mechanical properties (tensile, compressive, and flexural strength) and water absorption capacity of hybrid GFRP composite comprising woven E-glass fabric and

The optimal bonding of adhesives to dentin requires the sealer to be completely removed from dentinal walls. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different cleaning procedures using gutta-percha solvents on bond strength of adhesive resins to AH Plus contaminated dentin (APCD). The pulp chamber dentin surfaces were contaminated with AH Plus and cleaned with five different techniques (dry cotton, chloroform, orange oil, eucalyptol, and ethanol). Then, Clearfil SE Bond (CSE) (Kuraray), and Tetric N Bond (TNB) (Ivoclar Vivadent) were applied and filled with a composite resin. Th

Young patients often times are poor candidates for implant-supported restorations due to ongoing jawbone development. This case report describes a viable restorative option for a 16-year-old patient who had a large cleft defect and a hopeless prognosis for the right lateral incisor. The clinician utilized a combination of a fixed bonded ceramic restoration to replace tooth No. 7 and direct composite resin, including pink composite resin, to restore the symmetry and gingival level of tooth No. 8. This conservative approach allowed for an esthetic outcome while providing the patient a stable and

Reliable adherence of resin-based cements is of prime importance for the longevity of cemented restorations. The present study investigated whether a relationship exists between adherence energy to a metal substrate and the degree of cross-linking and wetting characteristics of resin-based luting agents. The adherence energies between a sand-blasted metal surface and a series of experimental resin cements were measured by means of the wedge test. The degree of cross-linking was calculated from the monomer composition of the resin cements. The measured wetting characteristics were work of adhes

In the field of wood-based composites, while traditional resins such as urea-formaldehyde and phenolic resins feature mature manufacturing processes, concerns over formaldehyde emissions and sustainability continue to drive the development of formaldehyde-free, low-VOC, and renewable adhesives. In recent years, amino acid-based biomass adhesive systems have garnered attention due to their unique structures and biobased feedstocks. However, they still face challenges such as insufficient wetting and mechanical properties, poor mold resistance, and environmental concerns. To address such challen

Hybrid phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resins represent one of the most important niche groups of binding systems for composites. New industrial needs, environmental requirements, and price fluctuations have led to further research on materials with enhanced mechanical and thermal properties. The preparation of novel hybrid materials can be achieved by inclusion of various elements or functional groups in the organic polymer phenolic framework. Herein, we report the synthesis and characterization of a PF-based hybrid material with different nanoscale silicone species and ZnAl-layered double hydroxide

Air polishing devices are designed primarily to remove soft deposits and stains from tooth surfaces. While improved strength and durability of esthetic restorative materials have resulted in increased usage, the effect of air polishing on these improved materials has not been determined. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of air polishing on contemporary esthetic restorative materials. Four materials were tested: ceramic, hybrid composite resin, microfilled composite resin, and glass ionomer cement. Ceramics and hybrid composites exhibited the least change in surface roughness

The acrylic content of dental composites poses a risk of adverse reactions. Although the quantities of the substances released are probably too small to cause systemic reactions, local skin or mucosal reactions may arise from direct contact with dental composites. In fact, epidemiological data suggest that most known side effects of dental resins are occupational dermatoses. They may either be due to irritation or allergy. In the Scandinavian countries, occupational dermatoses are relatively common among dental staff, sometimes entailing occupational disability and re-schooling. Most of these

Commercial phenol-formaldehyde (PF) adhesives adapted from wood-composite applications are not specifically designed for bamboo, whose relatively high density, low porosity, poor surface wettability, and restricted transverse transport pathways hinder resin spreading and penetration. In this study, four PF adhesives with different molecular weights and viscosities were synthesized by optimizing the reaction temperature and time for bonding flattened Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis). The developed adhesives showed enhanced wettability to bamboo compared with the commercial phenolic resin. The
