In 12 house-dust-mite-infested double beds, one of the mattresses was replaced by a new one, the other being regarded as a mite source. All new mattresses were treated in a double-blind fashion, with either benzyl benzoate or placebo before being placed on the bed as well as 1 year later. Thirty-six patients with onychomycoses of their toe-nails were included in a double-blind, parallel-group comparative study of fluconazole 150 mg once weekly and griseofulvin 1,000 mg once daily for 12 months, or earlier if cured. We divided 95 healthy male subjects into 3 groups which received: cinnarizine 50 mg, cinnarizine 25 mg, and placebo. To assess the efficacy of pyrimethamine (Pyr) for primary prophylaxis of cerebral toxoplasmosis (CT) in HIV patients (pts), 554 pts were randomized in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (mean follow-up: 14 months). The intent-to-treat analysis found no significant difference in the incidence of ct at 1 year: 12% (Pyr) versus 13% (Pcb) nor in survival. Side-effects leading to stop the study drug were more frequent in Pyr group, especially cutaneous rashes: 8% (Pyr) versus 2% (Pcb).

Histamine H2-receptor antagonists at conventional doses have proved only partly efficacious in the treatment of reflux oesophagitis. The aim of this study, therefore, was to compare the efficacy of high doses of nizatidine (300 mg b.i.d.) versus placebo in 117 patients with grade I and II oesophagitis.
